There is going into space, then there is TRAVELLING through space. Even if we could travel at speeds approaching light speed, it would still take 4 years to reach the nearest star, and all but a few dozen are more than 100 light years away. An object's mass increases as it moves faster, and therefore it requires more and more energy to accelerate that object. There isn't enough energy in the universe to accelerate a spaceship to the speed of light, not to mention decelerate it back down.

Yes, our industrial technology won't get us there, albeit one maybe; if we had access to a hull strong enough to withstand space and radiation for an enduring time. As of now it's just not plausible however after acquiring Biological immortality time is no longer relevant or we could incorporate cryogenics but then we would have to be absolutely certain that the ship can control itself and steer away from debris. Cryptobiosis would be a neat feature.

If stem cell research didn't get halted so much we'd be a bit further now.

I doubt this model (light speed) will be outdated in 200 years. It's pretty solid.
