If Kepler Planet 485b had life, how would it change your life?
    #22012337 - 07/28/15 09:46 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

As you may know already (likely from the other thread), a NASA satellite naamed "Kepler" (which sole mission is to search for Earth-like planets) found an Earth-like planet that is bigger and older than Earth. its called Kepler

Scientists are saying it could host life on the exoplanet because it resides in the "habitable zone" from its parent star, which is an area where water and possibly life can be supported without freezing (too far from star) or burning up (too close to star).

So, lets say NASA sends a satellite to Kelper-485b and finds a planet filled with life.

How would this effect your life? Would it be profound? Would u careless?

It would merely confirm what I believe to be likely true about the universe.

Kind of like the way my fist really good breakthrough on LSD felt - it was confirmation of deeper beliefs in many ways. I couldn't wait to wake up after coming down and sleeping because I knew what I had encountered was real.  (This was after several years obsessing over physics, especially nonlinear dynamics, cosmology and quantum theory of course, and pure math - fractals and various geometric principles, primes and infinite series etc.)
oops sorry for the aside

It would make me happy, and give me a sense of peace. It would make me worry less about the ecological problems of life on earth, and kindle a sense of wonder and fulfillment. It would bring me joy. Also endless fascination.

I don't think it would really DIRECTLY change my life. I've always kept an open mind about the possibility of other habitable planets out there. I mean mathematically it kinda makes sense. It would give me some cool new things to think about and learn about though, so I guess it would change my life in that way.

i dont know to be honest life on that planet wont pay the bills so i don't give a shit. i guess im cool with it mate. NASA is doing there thing im doing mine.
if you do the math thought its obvious there's other life out there though if there are unlimited oceans of universe's then there's a 100% chance for other life to be out there.

I'd sign up with the Primary Revolutionary Culinary Acquisation Association and we would go to space, bring these specimens back then continue to eat them.

Somehow it would make me feel a bit better about how awefully we've fucked up our own paradise like the bacteria we are.

Too bad its 1400 light years away and the human race probably will not exist when it gets there

23 million years to get there

It would totally change my day to day... I'd start brushing my teeth differently, I would put on my left shoe first instead of the right. It would flip my entire daily life upside down..
