Kepler Telescope Detects Possible Earth-Size Planet * 1

Astronomers are quickly closing in on Earth-size planets elsewhere in the galaxy as they find planetary systems that look more and more like our solar system.

Scientists working with NASA’s Kepler satellite reported Thursday that they might have spotted a planet just 1.5 times the diameter of Earth around a Sun-like star 2,000 light-years away. If that planet is made of similar stuff as Earth, its mass would be three to four times as much.

That's an artists rendition of it. I'm pretty sure all NASA does is shoot out lasers into the vast unknown.

I might be missing something but who cares how big it is? Isn't the composition more important?

Ask NASA, buddy. They're the kids playing with lasers.
Somehow they have it down to a "science" where they can tell what's out there by the way lasers bounce off things.

this is very important, if the planet is bigger and has more mass its going to have tons more gravity, which could crush humans to death...

size(mass) is very important to scientists, they believe that earth sized planets are more likely to support life (less extreme gravity)..i mean, it worked here right?

there are some extreme life forms on earth (i.e. some that thrive in high temps, pressures etc) but most life (as we know it) thrives in the conditions that our planet provides...so only makes sense to search out "earth like" planets
