That's just stupid... An intro class without any English?
That's fucking absurd.
I had spanish classes from 5th grade - I think 9th grade, English allowed & I still got an F every time.

I'm jealous of those people living around here who learned Spanish and English at the same time very early and don't even remember learning both languages cuz they are bi-racial living in usa

I didn't learn any languages at the same time, but am fluent in 3 and conversational in 1.

Portuguese was my first language. Went to school for a year in Italy (learned Italian). Followed by coming to 'Merica in 94' & learning English.

I'm conversational in Spanish because it's so close to Portuguese, and I took 4 years of it in HS which helped with grammar aspect of it.

Immersion is the best way to learn. In my last years of studying French I wasn't allowed to speak a word of English in class.

You are a perfect case study of the professors intentions actualized. What I mean is the professor's goal when speaking only in the foreign language is to give you that 'thrown into the deep end' feeling. It stresses you out and makes you almost panic a bit. This jolts your brain into functioning on the level of 'I need to learn this and I need to do it fast' kinda survival mode that accelerates your leaning substantially.

Although stressful, learning another language is very rewarding on many different levels IMO. So stick with it and don't hesitate to get with your peers or teachers if you need help keeping up.

hmmm, that does make sense.
all it made me do, though, is withdraw. didn't need it, just thought it'd be a good idea, but I was beyond lost so I called it quits before my GPA suffered.

Ya I'm gonna stick with it. I figured its meant to fuck with my head a little. I tried before and had the same feeling/problem so I dropped. However I'm not gonna let my sons mom teach him a language I can't speak. :bored: I've got the drive to learn this shit and I'm gonna do it damnit :gc:

Yeah some teachers/professors are dicks like that and don't let you speak English. It helps in the long run (as long as you understand the basics).

See this is why I never took a foreign language class, being able to speak one language is enough for me.
