I just saw this posted on another site and thought I would share.  Upon further investigation, it appears an Adobe Member account may be required.  That would also appear to be free.

I will report back and let you know how it goes.  Probably tomorrow though.

not a bad score if you want PS though, most of the features I personally use were available in the 90s let alone '06 (i think roughly when CS 2 was released)

So is this legit? Because CS2 is all I need; I don't really use any functionality of later versions. You don't have to have a $50/month subscription to use this software? No usage restrictions otherwise?

No monthly payment or any restrictions found thus far.  I used it for several hours last night and it worked perfectly.

The downloads are meant for owners of CS 2 -it's not precisely legal, but it works.... Basically Adobe decided to shut down their activation servers for CS 2.

Adobe's response after blogs misreported:

"You have heard wrong! Adobe is absolutely not providing free copies of CS2!" said Adobe employee Don Isaacs on Adobe's forums, overdoing the exclaimation marks somewhat. "What is true is that Adobe is terminating the activation servers for CS2 and that for existing licensed users of CS2 who need to reinstall their software, copies of CS2 that don't require activation but do require valid serial numbers are available. (Special serial numbers are provided on the page for each product download.) You are only legally entitled to download and install with that serial number if you have a valid license to the product!"
