    #2270997 - 01/25/04 09:22 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

I recently received a Smart Card reader from American Express,There was a thread about getting one free in the Pub I think.Anyways, I was wondering if the software found at:
http://www.maxking.co.uk/smartcardsoftware.htm
would work for these readers. I have no way to test it out for myself yet..would anyone know?

Do you need software for something like that? I thought you just plug it into the USB, and plug the card into the reader. That should be it.

You NEED software for it to operate.

There's a lot of card readers that are plug and play. Windows will automatically install drivers and its ready to go.

What kind of reader is it ? Which brand ? USB or serial ? What kind of cards do you want to read ( Smartcards, Teleponycards, PIC Cards ... )?
What do you want to do with the reader ( sign your emails, log in to your computer, encrypt messages, store passwords, read the telephone book of your pin card, hack the card of your pay-tv provider ... ) ?
What operation system are you using ( Windows?, Linux, Mac ... ) If you have a standard reader with standard cards ( ISO 7816 ) windows should provide you with a driver for the PC/SC interface/api of the card. The driver for the reader should ship together with the reader.
You have to be a little bit more precise.
