OMG you're a hoot.  You should be working for some 12 step Hallmark Card company. The fact remains you don't know what you're talking about.

Yes depression is hard to get over I know this.

No you don't, imo you don't know shit about chronic depression no matter what you might be expecting us to believe.

I've been fucking picking myself up for 60 years, I know I've done pretty well too and had a life many would envy even today.  Still, the fact remains I've had low grade chronic depression all of my life.

You are so fos I can hardly believe it.  You think because you have experienced some depression you understand everyone else's depression.  How stoopid is that?:braindamage: (very very stoopid)

YOU PUT YOURSELF INTO THAT STATE OF CHRONIC DEPRESSION! rofl... instead of reflecting on what the depression is about.. ask yourself what you can do to make it better. Ask yourself why you are depressed...not who did this to depress you. For someone who has been around for 60 years, you would think you have found multiple ways to deal with your depression. Instead you tell yourself that you have it instead of telling yourself to get rid of it. There is always an outlet to make yourself happy. IT IS YOU who chooses to go down another path that strays you away from what makes you truly happy. Stop thinking about what others think of you.

Absolute bullshit and yelling won't make it any less silly. Again you expect to be an expert on others depressive states using only your own limited experience.  Very ignorant.  I did all those things you stated including therapy for several years with different therapists.  I've developed some of my own workarounds like I've stated and often enjoy my life but still deal daily with chronic depression.

My depression started when I was in an severely abusive childhood situation and you claim that I caused the ensuing depression.  I'm so close to flaming you it isn't funny.

Again, you are looking for the acceptance of others, you are dwelling on your past about how your parents didn't accept/abused you as a child.
What you need to look at is the people who you have grown up with that have always been there for you. If no one has every been there for you in your life then I'm sorry. I am here for you now. You parents do not reflect the type of person you are. You should take what you learned from your parents and do the opposite so that you can ensure that this won't happen to future generations. Through this, this should cause a sense of self-gradification/happiness. Know that you are the better person doing the better thing to better off humanity. Know that what your parents did to you was so that you could take those teachings and better the world around you. Be happy bro. Help others so that others don't have to go through the same thing you did. If this isn't enough for you, to know you are bettering the world, then I don't know what to tell you man.

No I'm not. I'm acknowledging what happened to me and where this all began. I'm looking for no ones acceptance except my own and I have that for the most part and I know full well I'm quite different then my parents.

However  I certainly don't want someone of your caliber "being there for me", I already grew up with a preacher who can't listen to or comprehend anything but their own voice.

Be happy bro

Oh OK, all better. Thanks.

Almost all the the related posts to depression on this thread can be related to someone else's doing. Again, acceptance of another. Screw there acceptance. Accept that you are who you are, and you have the ability to change the mindset and the will of others through your emotions. If you are going to be depressed then you will simply just cause others to be depressed to. Analogy- "Leave your attitude at the door."
Why? because when you bring in the negative energy it simply vibes off to others. Your negative attitude will cause others to reflect on the negativity in their lives. Snowball effect from here. Trying being positive and see how the world around you changes. You sir, are just a very closed minded individual who seems to enjoy being depressed. There are many many many different ways of dealing with this. But you have convinced yourself you've tried everything and now you are yet again, looking to others for acceptance so that you don't feel so bad about your own depression.

And yet you are here trying to belittle me and question my intelligence. Instead of constructive criticism you just go straight to criticism. I don't listen to only the words that I believe. I have done a lot of research on personal relations, psychology, neuroscience and the works. You have a common case of Stockholm syndrome. I have listened to many influential speakers, seen only 2 therapists, and done a lot of personal research on the internet. I could care less if you listen to what I have to say or not. The basic fact is you do care to an extent to what I am saying otherwise you wouldn't reply at all and just keep to your thoughts.
I'm acknowledging what happened to me and where this all began.
So then acknowledge it, move on, and do differently. You can't change the past...you can only change the future. Instead of dwelling on how to better yourself, work on bettering others. Ensure that others don't have to experience the same grief you did. Change the world, don't be a victim of it. Childhood depression seems very hard by what you have been saying. I would know nothing about this seeing as how my childhood and my social life has almost been perfect. (Due to the knowledge I've learned and applied to my day to day life)
Here is my advice for people with childhood issues...Do with it what you will...
You can't change anything that happened. Those memories will always be with you. But you can ensure that your children, your children's children, and those around you, their offspring, don't go through the same traumatic issues you dealt with.
Or you can tell yourself "Mommy and daddy didn't love me" and just dwell on that your whole life.
Have fun:thumbup:

Money issue are DEFINITELY not the most common form of depression.  Ive grown up in a privileged family and so did my parents and they suffer from chronic depression too.  IMO it's more genetics then it is environment.  In fact it's quite the opposite... like biggie smalls said "Mo money, mo problems,"  AND IT'S TRUE!

True and yet not true, those with more money create their own problems by going past the basic means to live.
Those who are struggling to meet those basic needs, because the have no money, due to the economy, personal choices, etc. are the ones with the true problems.
Again do some research..

I'm in college majoring in psychology.  I've read, written and done plenty or research on depression.

Seeing as how you have nothing better to do but criticize other people's way of thinking. Maybe you have enough time to waste on this

Watch parts 1-3
Its a 7hour and 30 minute long seminar..but I feel it would help a lot of people with their depression. Learn to look at the bigger scale and start looking at how to change the world around you.

True but its no secreet childhood very often triggers "pretty much everything shitty (but also positive of course)" when you grow up. Reaching your sub-consciousness is often a key to sort things out.
