So it was extraterrestrials that seeded life on Earth
    #17473578 -

What does Georgio Tsoukalos have in common with great scientists of our age?

Aliens. Sort of.

25 January 2005: J. Craig Venter endorses panspermia.
10 May 2007: E. O. Wilson endorses panspermia.
18 April 2008: Richard Dawkins endorses panspermia.
7 April 2009: Stephen Hawking endorses panspermia.
2 May 2009: Freeman Dyson speaks favorably about panspermia.

Panspermia is just a quarter step from directed panspermia, which is  the intentional spreading of the seeds of life to other planets by an advanced extraterrestrial civilization, or the intentional spreading of the seeds of life from Earth to other planets by humans.

Quote:
The late Nobel prize winner Professor Francis Crick, OM FRS, along with British chemist Leslie Orgel proposed the theory of directed panspermia in 1973. A co-discoverer of the double helical structure of the DNA molecule, Crick found it impossible that the complexity of DNA could have evolved naturally.

Crick posed that small grains containing DNA, or the building blocks of life, could be loaded on a brace of rockets and fired randomly in all directions. Crick and Orgel estimated that a payload of one metric ton could contain 1017 micro-organisms organized in ten or a hundred separate samples. This would be the best, most cost effective strategy for seeding life on a compatible planet at some time in the future.

The strategy of directed panspermia may have already been pursued by an advanced civilization facing catastrophic annihilation, or hoping to terraform planets for later colonization.

Alien jizz in space is an unnecessary step. Life must be able to arise in order for there to be aliens. Therefore there would need to be some proof that Earth was seeded by intelligent life rather than from spontanious creation, or some reason why Earth is not an ideal place for life to arise when by all appearances Earth seems to have done a pretty good job of cultivating it.

why there is reality and patterned, law-like consistency at all, rather than noise or non-reality is not a question physics answers. It's a question physics presupposes an answer to in order to provide other answers.

I agree. It seems to me that life began on Earth as anaerobic cells and then evolved to aerobic cells. Is this idea just passing the buck? Some of these men who endorsed it are not what I'd call intellectually lazy. Whatever the truth is I do not know. Alien sperm or biogenesis on Earth or on some distant Earth in another star system. Whichever it is, the result is the same. Primordial life on Earth evolved here, at least from a certain point.

I'd also throw out the possibility that carbon based life began independently on several places on Earth and in the solar system (Mars) and that it all ended up on Earth and evolved together.
