Captain Picard is honorable.
    #17427186 -

So the crew of the Enterprise captures a lone Borg who was crash landed on a planet. The lone Borg is cutoff entirely from the rest of the Borg collective. It is analyzed and in the process develops its own personality and is given the name Hugh.

A computer virus in the form of a logical paradox is developed that could destroy the Borg. The plan is to first infect Hugh with the virus, then release him to be rescued by the Borg collective, after which he will interface with the Borg interwebz and unwittingly transfer the virus.

However, once Captain Picard realizes that Hugh has developed personality and a sense of individuality he decides not to infect the Borg with the virus. To him, Hugh has rights that are inherent by him being an individual and using him in such a way, to destroy his entire race, would be unethical. This is despite the fact that the Borg Collective has destroyed and assimilated untold lives, human and otherwise.

:borg:

The sense of individuality which he has gained with us... might be transmitted through the entire Borg Collective - every one of the Borg being given the opportunity to experience the feeling of... of singularity. And perhaps that's the most pernicious program of all. The knowledge of self being spread throughout the Collective, in that brief moment, might alter them forever

Captain Jean-Luc Picard

Hearing a friend tell me about the episode where Q forces them lightyears away to meet the Borg was the reason I started watching the show, and I ended up killing all seven seasons in like, 2 weeks.

Star Trek TNG was a fantastic show.

Q: I add a little excitement, a little spice, to your lives, and all you do is complain. Where is your adventurous spirit, your imagination? Think, Picard, think! Think of the possibilities.
Capt. Picard: Simply speaking, we don't trust you.
Q: Oh. Well, you may not trust me, but you do need me. You're not prepared for what awaits you.
Capt. Picard: How can we be prepared for that which we do not know? But I do know that we are ready to encounter it.

I recently watched about half of the first season. Then I decided to skip ahead and watch all the borg related episodes. Now I'm going back to where I left off. It's definitely one of the best shows, if not THE best show, I've seen. I remember watching random episodes on the sci-fi channel when I used to still live at home. The show had a calming effect. I like how Picard always kept his wits about him even when shit was hitting the fan.

When I was a kid I'd see it on TV and immediately flip past.  I had some preconceived notion that it was just a bunch of dudes in a little space ship, lost in space, talking like military people and doing stupid sciency stuff.

I was dead wrong.

Yeah TNG is an awesome show and Picard is one of the best characters. Picard and Data are my two favorites on the show. They are gradually releasing it on Blu-ray now, but I think they are only up to about season 2. I can only find 720p torrents but it still looks noticeably better than the dvd sourced files.

Every time they have a Blu-ray release they do a special screening of two episodes from that season at the movie theater in my town. It's pretty cool to get to see TNG on the big screen. Plus, they show some of the bonus features from the Blu-ray release and the majority is pretty entertaining.

Out of the two though I thought Crusher was easier to take seriously as a character, not one of the more interesting characters on the show but at least she seemed professional. Troi was just sort of an idiot and her "magic power" basically amounted to stating the obvious. It never seemed to be really too useful when they really would have needed it.
