I've never had a urinary tract infection feel like I was pissing razor blades. It can be pretty bad, but not quite as bad as kidney stones IME.

Ok. A UTI is a bacterial infection which requires antibiotics to get rid of.  They usually prescribe a sulfa based drug, and this is the time most ladies find out if they are allergic to sulfa or not.....

They test for a UTI with a white blood cell count, and they also test for blood in the urine.  This is slightly different than an STD test, which is usually a panel test of positive and negative indicators.

If you are prone to UTI's you will need to be extra careful and do a few things :
    -Pee right after intercourse or masturbation.
    -Avoid sitting in hottubs or baths, pee after being in a hot tub or bath.
  -Take probiotics, eat yogurt.
  - Drink cranberry juice regularly, the real stuff, not cocktail juice.
  -Wear cotton panties.
  -Drink lots of water every day.
