"How do you get diagnosed with diverticulitis? Do they take a stool sample or what?"
i was diagnosed with diverticulosis first, which then became diverticulitis.
diverticulosis = pockets in the colon diverticulitis = pocket burst, causing infection
I had a C/T scan done of my abdomen and pelvic area, it showed the pockets in my colon.

How do you know if you have this? I have bad puss pockets in my throat, and I honestly can't remember the last time I went #2.

You don't want to keep your fever down. A fever is your body's way of killing bacteria, by heat. The only time you would have to worry is if your temperature exceeds 105, that's when your organs will begin to shut down.

CT scans aren't that expensive, no way. MRI's maybe, but not CT's, not even without insurance would it be that expensive (well, maybe if you had no insurance and it was taken in ER care it'd be debatable).

sounds like an impacted stone. I used olive leaf extract to successfully kill the infection. Drink lots of water, the stone will move, I agonizing ways. Assuming that's what it is. Good luck.

ummm, yeah, i have the bill in front of me, and it was 854, it was 432 for the abdominal and 422 for the pelvic. i dont have insurance.
unless my fathers visa bill is lying and my eyes are lying as well, it was defiantly close to 900 dollars.

This is why I'm scared to go to the hospital... my insurance starts next month... my ibuprofin kicked in, I feel a little better. I'm going to the doctor in 2 1/2 hours I think they're gonna take blood this time.. I feel less doomed now, I get very irrational when I have 102+ fever. it's down to 101.2 now..

My mom has had diverticulosis/itis several times. Pain and fever are typical, antibiotics and waiting are her treatment. Anything gritty can aggravate it ... nuts or bits of roughage get caught in the pockets and fester. Broths are good. So is pureed food.
Water soluble fiber is good - pectin, oat bran, slippery elm, citracell. These form light gels that soothe the intestinal walls. Cellulose fiber (wheat bran, etc) is not so good when the problem flares up - it is more like sawdust, very heavy, can get trapped in the pockets. Don't overdo the good fiber, make sure that there is adequate water with any of the good fiber.
Might also want to think about yogurt or some other probiotic if you are taking antibiotics. The antibiotics can mess up the normal, healthy bacteria you need in your gut.

Yeah. I think they are only effective after you actually finish a cycle of antibiotics though.

Yeah, no insurance sucks. I have uric acid kidney stones running in the family, and got a case of gout after drinking to much. Allopurinol seems to have gotten rid of the big scream/moan in your pillow ones and pass out for a few days. Now they are just annoying and occasionally cost me some sick days.
I think the kidney to the bladder is the worst. But I work out, so I don't feel acute pain much. Usually hurts about 15 seconds after I piss em out. But nowhere near as much as from the kidney to the bladder. Plus impacted stones give you nasy UTI's. I use allopurinol, 150mg a day and Olive Leaf Extract for the infections. It works well. The stones have gotten smaller and alot less painfull. I also don't drink as much alcohol. Pot and other illegals are better anyway.
Good luck, my mother almost died on the operating table from septic shock, because the huge uric acid stone she had crystalized around some nasty bacteria. Fun, Fun, Fun.

It was during surgery. They shot her full of anti biotics. It was a big stone. Like a golf ball. And her doctor at the time was good. But they run in the family. I got em too. So does longevity though, so it's all good. ;p

Medically there is no question about it: you should go to the ER just to err on the side of caution.
And yes, I hate your health care system too.

Go to the doctor. In the meantime drink cranberry juice. It causes the bacteria to not adhere to cell walls.
Also you can buy some oregano oil and swish it in your mouth for a couple of minutes. It will enter your blood stream though the soft tissues in your mouth and kill any infection there.
But do go to the doctor.

Yeah, after 30 mg vicodin and 4 shots of burboun, I almost called the ER, but passed out from pain on the way back to bed. By the time I came too it was excedingly painful, but tolerable. Big stones are like torture or something. Not fun. Even the smaller ones are annoying and can lose you work days, plus UTI's and kidney infections sometimes follow, which suck in a whole way of their own.
ER if you can afford it. But I try to stay away from the Medical Community. Been asking around for a decent doctor who actually listens, is non-judgemental, and takes uninsured people. No luck yet.
Hope you're feeling better.
