It's not an assumption that there's no life out there, but rather that it's been paying us a visit. Besides,  the incredibly vast distances out there would make it rather hard to verify this, now wouldn't it.

500 years ago the microscope hadn't been invented yet, and there was no way to verify the existence of a microbial world

but it's always been here. not only that, it constitutes the majority of life on this planet.

i'm just saying.. although it may seem impossible to us right now, that will likely not always be the case


whether you think so or not, we're pretty clever creatures. we'll figure out a way around this speed of light thing eventually

It would be naive and self centered to presume that we are the only life in the universe. Now I don't believe we have been visited. I think  planets and life are  like grains of sand on the beach. What grain do you visit.?

just because we don't understand wormholes, doesn't mean they would be impossible for a species billions of years more advanced than us to implement

could you have proven that spacecraft was even possible 100 years ago?

could you have proven that it would've been possible to send a space craft to mars 100 years ago?

could you have proven 100 years ago that, not only sending a spacecraft to mars was possible, but also that an attached camera could transmit high-resolution images to earth, to be viewed by anyone with internet access at any given time?

what bugs me is people who demand proof before asserting that something is even possible, while putting no effort into discovering the proof for themselves.

humans have only gotten as far as we are today by proving the unprovable.

if you're suggesting that because something is unprovable, that makes it impossible, then that would explain your view of humanity as "devolving"

if everyone had this mindset, we would still be in caves


proof comes after knowledge & understanding, not before

all i'm saying is that you shouldn't classify things as "impossible" just because they have not yet been proven.

this kind of close-minded thinking produces no new discoveries.

There are approximately 100 trillion stars in the single galaxy of IC 1101. Not sure how to put that into perspective. But if you take a few seconds to try to picture magnifying our earth 1000 times bigger 1.3 MILLION times bigger than it actually is then you have the equivalent size of 1 star called, the sun (you could fit 1.3 million earths on the sun).

I'm just gonna guess you are 25 years old. If so, you are approximately (excluding leap years from calculations) 788,400,000 seconds old. You are not even 1 billion seconds old yet. Come back to me in 99 billion seconds (3,139 years) so you have somewhat of a grasp of what 100 billion (seconds) feels like.

Then repeat that experiment 1000 times over so you understand the number 100 trillion.

If you counted each star, at a rate of 1 star per second, it would take you roughly 3,164,000 YEARS of counting...1....2.....3......4.......5...To finally get to the number 100 trillion.
