Reporter just talked to a female relative, an aunt (I think) . She said Mom was a survivalist, owned a total of 5 firearms and went to the range frequently. Adam was home schooled and according to their barber(yea, barber, reporters leave no stone unturned) Mom was very controlling, ordered him to sit in the chair, and decided how his hair should be cut. Somewhere else they said he had Asbergers syndrome.. :shrug:

Mention it, because this just is further proof that the issue is not weak enforcement, but weak laws. The problem is the fact that these weapons are legal, and that there are so many of them. This kid didn't have to worry about legal restrictions on himself, because there was someone who could legally own these guns. If it wasn't his mother, it would be a friend, or a friend's parents, or a neighbor, or a stranger. All he needed was the knowledge that someone had guns like this and where they are located. There is no such thing as "safely locked away," especially when a 20 year old male is motivated to do something.

It is quite possible that the mere availability of the weapons becomes the reason that they are used. "I should do something with those." Not far fetched at all.

The fact is, even the most self avowed "responsible gun owner" is a menace to the community in which they live because they simply cannot be responsible for their weapons 24/7. I'm sure this woman never considered her hobby, or fascination with guns to be a threat to anyone. But the fact is, her actions led to her own death and the deaths of so many of her neighbors kids. If she didn't own the guns, maybe this wouldn't have happened. I say maybe, because I'm sure there were other collectors, "patriots" or other people with a weird fetish for guns in the community just one step away from being an unwilling accomplice in mass murder.

Oh. One more thing. Yes. Without any access to guns, he could have stabbed the kids "Chinese style." At least they would have survived.

How about instead of pretending that banning guns is going to prevent people from being murdered we focus on the psychological aspects of what drives someone to murder.
