DRYING MUSHROOMS

Ok... well i don't have a dehydrator and decided to try another method of drying so i did a bunch of research and reading on this site as well as google and i took bits and pieces from all over and came up with this.
First i got a box then taped up the bottom so nothing would fall out, then lifted up the flaps from the bottom and put some cat litter on the very bottom then let the flaps sit at an angle. put some toilet paper along the edges and then a strip along so that it laid flat, then i laid the goods across.

Then i put a piece across the tops of the goods but not touching the goods. I also cut a hole on one side directly if front of the goods so that i could place a fan outside the box.

Then i laid a black t-shirt across the top of the box. Note that the fan is not facing the goods but away so that it sucks out rather than blowing in.

I then put a heat lamp about 3 to 4 feet away from the box but facing down onto the top of the black t-shirt.

why cat litter? this has been debated but it can be used as a type of desiccant but other types of desiccant like damprid is going to give you better results.
why a black t-shirt? this keeps the light and heat from beating down directly on your goods.
why keep the heat lamp 3-4 feet away? well... its a heat lamp and the further away it is the further the heat is beating on the goods and it heats up the black shirt which in turn heats the box.
why face the fan out? first off the fan will suck the moisture out of your box rather than blow the moisture around in the box, second it sucks the heat off your goods.... heat comes in threw the top and gets sucked out the side giving you a constant flow (in from the top out threw the side).
why a cardboard box? it will also absorb moister, so between you box, your tissue, your cat litter, your LOW heat and your fan sucking out you get dried goods. if you plan on storing for longer periods i would suggest using a dehydrator and some desiccant in a closed container after dehydration.
Also, when drying under a heat lamp it can  effect the potency of your goods if too much heat is applied for too long time. So be careful.

i normally air dry them for 12-24 hrs then put them in a airtight container with damprid, within a couple days they are always cracker dry

This is the one I built years back and it works like a champ. It is little more than a plastic tub with 2 computer fans on one end and a hole in the other to allow air flow. I used dowels and plastic canvas to make a kind of tray system that allows for easy rotation of shrooms. Just toss them in, add the lid, and turn on the power. They are ready for the final desiccant chamber after a day or two.

You know what would make it work even better right?  Open a thing of damprid and pour the little granules out all over the bottom of your homemade dehydrator.

Nah. The desiccant would just absorb moisture of the air and quickly saturate. The only way to effectively lower the relative humidity for drying in front a fan would be to use heat.

Congrats! Enjoy eating those crusty gills, you should pick them before they open up, keeps them from cracking and falling apart, plus no added benefit on weight and potency by letting them open up.

Kizzle is correct. You will end up wasting your drying agent. Trust me, that set up works very well for quantities of mushies.

i put mine in a tiny container about 1cm away from some dehummidifier shit. cracker dry in less than a day. :smile: keep it simple

Well just to let you all know this was a experiment... and i wanted to let you all know that it was VERY successful i don't believe that i lost that much psilocybin/psilocin content at all, i grubbed on 4g and had an experience that can only be described as out of this world, powerful, god encountering type of experience... and those words don't even really come close to being able to explain what i went through.... by far the most intense experience i have ever had in my entire life. At one point some of my past memorys became present situations in a VERY real way, and it went all the way back to my birth which was crazy to go through that experience... so this drying method is really good.
