My former employer ripped me off $1,800.00

Long story short, I worked for 6 weeks with a company and all in all was shorted around $1,800.00 in wages. I don't expect this guy to just pay me either.

I called the U.S. labor board and they told me if a company does not gross $500,000 a year then the labor board won't hold them to national employer standards. or some dumb shit like that.

Anybody ever sued a deadbeat employer?
My buddy told me they could file bankrupt and avoid paying me all together.

I'm afraid that I'll end up wasting money on a lawyer just to end up screwed even worse by this douche bag.

depends on the company and the situation.

If the company is bankrupt, they are still liable for unpaid wages for two months generally speaking.

Was it a legal work arrangement, or were you working for cash under the table?

If it is a fly by night type of business, you could probably do small claims court.

It was a legit employment. We had to file our own taxes on income.
If he was just paying us under the table then he was not telling us about it.

It's been less than a month since I quit on them, I still talk to half the crew and those 5 guys have all told me they still have yet to be paid up.
