plain and simple they are sub genres

people who say "thats techno" really just mean "thats EDM" but they are retarded

annoys me soooo much when people call genres like electro or house or even dubstep as "techno"

Yeah, minimal techno is pretty much the only form of musique dance electronique contemporaire that has anything to offer besides overblown distorted sound effect masturbation.

techno doesn't describe a broad spectrum of genres (the way most people think). however, there are many different styles of techno. it does TEND to be on the more repetitive side of the electronic music genre spectrum. older techno (late 90s early 2000s is faster, usually around 135-145 bpm, a lot of percussion and tribal influence). here are a couple of older techno tracks.





newer techno is slower, around the mid-high 120s.





i'll admit i'm not too knowledgeable on electro music but it does tend to have a lot of house influence, being considered "electrohouse" and what not.

tekno has always been about revolt and uprising....therefore dark,angry,gritty.
such as the spiral tribe sound system that opposed the UK gov't in the late 80's.
electro is a genre of music where you go to be seen. blow some coke, take some instragram photos for facebook. try to act is your better than everyone else since you have a 9-5 at urban outfitters.

Electro is definitely cheesier - I used to really like it, but I've transitioned more into deep house/techno/tech house, as it's really much better to dance to.  The drums never stop and it's a lot more driving, definitely the best club music.

Whatever is on Umek's iron curtain shows. I have been listening to a bunch of them and really like them.

i don't know what you mean by similarly formatted but if you like umek's stuff i'd recommend his 1605 podcast series. for me he's kind of strayed from full techno to a housier sound. also check out marco bailey's elektronic force podcast for techno, simon patterson does a monthly podcast of techtrance called digital showdown, and i'd call recommend looking at carl cox and sean tyas's shows too.
