Where do you get all your music for djing?

I get mine from beatport and stompy -- only places I can find a good selection of lossless files to mix.

Check out my soundcloud -- you will find a bunch of sets there that I have done. Funky stuff.

The Advent & Industrializer is my favorite hard stomping techno act. So dark and moody.

they are both sub genres and neither shud be used to explain all EDM

plain and simple they are sub genres

people who say "thats techno" really just mean "thats EDM" but they are retarded

annoys me soooo much when people call genres like electro or house or even dubstep as "techno"

techno sucks

Yeah, minimal techno is pretty much the only form of musique dance electronique contemporaire that has anything to offer besides overblown distorted sound effect masturbation.

techno doesn't describe a broad spectrum of genres (the way most people think). however, there are many different styles of techno. it does TEND to be on the more repetitive side of the electronic music genre spectrum. older techno (late 90s early 2000s is faster, usually around 135-145 bpm, a lot of percussion and tribal influence). here are a couple of older techno tracks.

newer techno is slower, around the mid-high 120s.

i'll admit i'm not too knowledgeable on electro music but it does tend to have a lot of house influence, being considered "electrohouse" and what not.

Im trying to figure out what the diferent genres are so its totally possible that I am off. All i know is that i like the type of music you could picture being played in  a sweaty all night party with lots of drug heads. The type of music you would think people would take stimulants to.

i've been to freeparties where the party starts on friday and doesn't end untill monday noon. Seeing as it's illegal, everybody is on drugs

I know techno is its own genre, but it's just the way I classify all my electronic music.

and Yeah I use techno as an umbrella term. Big woop, wanna fight about it?

Sorry dude, this is extremely cheesy, and it's as much progressive house as electro.

Some serious electro:

Knife Party - Rage Valley (Original Mix)

Nari & Milani - Atom (Original Mix)

Tommy Trash - The End (Original Mix)

THAT is electro

It's not about fighting, you're just straight up very wrong.

Old (classic) techno, tribally:
Carl Cox & Christian Smith - Dirty Bass

Another classic:
Thomaz vs Filterheadz - Sunshine

Moving to a bit newer:
DJ Urban - You Work It (Joey Beltram Remix)

Newer still, with a heavier bass line, and slower:
Adam Beyer - Be Quiet (Original Mix)

Another newer one:
Phunk Investigation - From The Dust (Original Mix)

tekno has always been about revolt and uprising....therefore dark, angry, gritty.
such as the spiral tribe sound system that opposed the UK gov't in the late 80's.
electro is a genre of music where you go to be seen. blow some coke, take some instragram photos for facebook. try to act is your better than everyone else since you have a 9-5 at urban outfitters.

Electro is definitely cheesier - I used to really like it, but I've transitioned more into deep house/techno/tech house, as it's really much better to dance to.  The drums never stop and it's a lot more driving, definitely the best club music.

This is starting to make a lot of sense. So far I'm really enojoying the tech house and i think minimal.

Whatever is on Umek's iron curtain shows. I have been listening to a bunch of them and really like them.

Does anyone know any other similarly formatted weekly radio shows for different genres?

i don't know what you mean by similarly formatted but if you like umek's stuff i'd recommend his 1605 podcast series. for me he's kind of strayed from full techno to a housier sound. also check out marco bailey's elektronic force podcast for techno, simon patterson does a monthly podcast of techtrance called digital showdown, and i'd call recommend looking at carl cox and sean tyas's shows too.
