Room Temp

Hey all, my neighboor is trying to grow for the first time and had some questions. The room he has to grow in stays a steady 82-86 degrees, it never gets much cooler than that...will that be way to warm to initiated pinning? Any ideas on how to keep the terrarium about 10 degrees cooler than the room?

Maybe get a cool mist humidifier.

yes that is too warm for pinning and like angryshroom said "Maybe get a cool mist humidifier" or i hear people talking about putting bags/jars of ice in the grow chamber to cool it down also.

Right on, thanks Kussh...I just read in a Tek that if your terrarium is 85 degrees to put the cakes in the fridge for a few hours before you put in the terrarium? Has Batman ever tried that?

Actually you can just stick some ice packs in your terrrarium. I know someone who has a 10 gal aquarium, he just changes packs every few hours, maybe 3 times a day and it stays about 70 in there. Normally the light heats it to about 83!

yes that is called "cold shocking" and what that dose is the give the mycelium a major temp change(colder) and that tell it to start pinning along with light of course

I've been harvesting with average temps in the 77-81 range. Got a cake of B+ right now with stipes as fat as your fingers at 79 degrees. If the temp gets out of hand, I'll throw in an ice pak, but with my cool mist setup it drags the RH down to 60% for a little while, so it's only a last resort.
