What temp for jars after innoculation?

Okay, I read different things about this, and I want to get it right. What temperature should the PF jars be kept in after innoculation?
PF TEK - Around 70 degrees. PF TEK for Simple Minds - 70 to 80 degrees. Closer to 80 better, but don't go over 80. Forum posts - 80 to 86 degrees.
My setup gives me good control over the temperature, so of course I want to pick the best temp for faster growth and not just one that will work. Is there a definitive answer? Does it vary with different strains?
I'm new and ignorant. Go easy on me!

Where did you read 70? Everything i've ever seen for cubensis says 80-85F. That's what I suggest.

I heard 70f from the original PF Tek doc by Psilocybe Fanaticus. URL at the Shroomery is:
http://www.shroomery.org/findorgrowthem.php?View=docs&doc=15
Here's the section I get it "70f" from:
> After inoculation of the jars, [do some stuff]. If the temperature is kept around > 70 degrees, germination will begin within 3 to 5 days. ... > Any room temperature is O.K. If it gets cold indoors, over head light shinning > down on the tops of the jars is a perfect heating technique for this culturing > stage. A clamping type light with a reflector works well for this. If this is done, > keep the temperature around 70 degrees (don't overheat the jars - monitor the > temperature with a thermometer). A warm overall house temperature is fine. If > you can stand the heat, the fungus will have no problem But in the overall view, > cool temperatures are never a problem. The rule is to not overheat.
So if I understand it right, the classic instructions for this procedure are contradicting what you just advised (80-85f). See why I get frustrated? :-)

86?F is optimum, 80?F a safe, and 70?F the least temperature.(least in terms of reasonably fast)

"86?F is optimum, 80?F a safe, and 70?F the least temperature.(least in terms of reasonably fast)"
the temp in Florida is high so as a result, the food storage room varies from 77 to 85, and thats where I keep my 4 PF jars.
105=spores, mycellum and shrooms die 95=maximum safe temp 85=optimial temp for fastest growth 70=minimum acceptable temp 65=minimum temp safe temp 55=shrooms die, spores dont grow

Okay, my previous decision to keep it at 85f has been validated. I feel safe again.
It's day 4 of my first batch, and I'm barely resisting the temptation to check for mycelium every fifteen minutes. :-)

I checked like 20 times today. I got first growth last night and now its twice as much. a square centimeter by now. of course it was at 82 degrees the whole time. how many jars do you have? look at the top

Heh. I have to crawl to the back of a closet to check mine, so in my case it would be really obsessive to be checking that often. My knees would get carpet burns.

Good luck with yours.
I have 4 jars that are 4 days old. These look soggy inside with substrate kind of smudged against the jar wall in places. I figure these might come through, but probably not, so I made a second batch of 3 jars that is 2 days old. So far, no mycellium or bad stuff in any jars, but it's still early.
I've got the shroom fever! Just ordered some more syringes and bought some more jars. I figure I'll just start a new batch each week, take careful notes, fix my mistakes along the way, and hopefully end up with the mushroom equivalent of a well-stocked wine cellar.

"I don't believe spores will die at 55?"
prob not but they wont germinate either, just stay dormanint.
"Heh. I have to crawl to the back of a closet to check mine"
store them elsewhere, maybe in the kitchen or cellar or basement or wherever.
"Good luck with yours."
at this point, im worried about contams mostly. if no contams then its a rather easy road to shrooms!
"These look soggy inside with substrate kind of smudged against the jar wall in places."
that should be ok, they need water anyway. hope you didnt pack the substrate though, they need air spaces too. how many CC of spores did you innoculate each jar with and did you make sure you saw it drip down with your own eyes?
"I've got the shroom fever! Just ordered some more syringes and bought some more jars."
LOL is this ur first time? how much were the syringes(dont need source, just curious on price)
"hopefully end up with the mushroom equivalent of a well-stocked wine cellar."
planning to share or sell any? I wouldnt do that, too risky. just grow em for my own use. you can take spore prints or dry the extra shrooms

Believe me, if you keep your jars in the mid 80's you will notice the growth rate is much faster. My buddy used to keep his jars in the closet (mid 70's) cause he didn't really think it would make all that much of a difference, finally he wised up and built a styrofoam cooler innoculation chamber, with a fish tank heater in a fish bowl. He kept the temp around 86, and he says he will never keep the jars in the closet again.

this explains the 3 day germination rate. I dont know how fast itll grow but I noticed growth in just 3 days!

Oh, I've got a thermostat-controlled heater in the closet too. There's a thermometer in there, and the temp has floated between 84 and 86 since innoculation. At some point I wouldn't mind making something like your friend's chamber. It would be more efficient to heat a smaller area.

Why? So I can get to them more easily? I may move them to the front of the closet, but I've got a bunch of other stuff there to get at. The situation seems to be okay for now.
> "These look soggy inside with substrate kind of smudged against the jar wall in > places." > > that should be ok, they need water anyway. hope you didnt pack the substrate > though, they need air spaces too.
Okay, that's good to hear. I didn't push down on the substrate, but I did sift it around side to side in order to fill spaces here and there.
> how many CC of spores did you innoculate > each jar with and did you make sure you saw it drip down with your own eyes?
About 3CC per jar and then later 1CC. I know that 1CC should suffice, but I misjudged the amounts at first. Yes, I saw it drip down.
> LOL is this ur first time? how much were the syringes(dont need source, just > curious on price)
Yeah, it's my first time. I bought syringes from two places--one was $13/syringe and the other $45/7 syringes.
> planning to share or sell any? I wouldnt do that, too risky. just grow em for my > own use. you can take spore prints or dry the extra shrooms
No, I wouldn't sell any. I don't understand why anyone would do that considering the risks involved.
I want to share them with a small group of friends, though. Doesn't mean I'm saying where I got them.

Actually they go into a hibernative state . Meaning they will not germinate until conditions for good survival are present . I think they can deal with a lot more colder than 55* before cell wall damage occurs . Point proven.................. How do mushrooms sprout up every spring after snow melt ?
