How picky with temps?...
    #527773 - 01/21/02 10:48 PM (22 years, 2 months ago)

My friend is trying to adjust the temp in his grow chamber with 2 aquarium heaters submerged in jars of water. He adjusts the humidity by covering more or less of each jar and the temp is adjusted of course by the temp dial on each heater and measured by a digital hydrometer/thermometer. So far he's found that its either good temps, or good humidity. My buddy wants temps of 70-75 degrees, and humidity at 95%. If he were to sacrifice one for the other, what would u pick? When the temps go down, the humidity goes down (less water evaperating)...now of course he could just cover up the jars a little, but its very hard to regulate he told me. I dont think he wants to get a cool mist humidifyer cuz he seems pretty certain he can hit 2 birds with 1 stone with the aquarium heaters. (warmth, and humidity).......

Question is, could he go up to temps like 76-81,82??

If so , he could leave both jars open and let there be 99% humidity. He also has an airpump running all the time (no timer) so it will lower the 99% to a nice 95% constantly. Casings are used in this chamber so the lower humidity is ok.

Man is this site slow now days, I have high speed and it still takes 45seconds to load....hmmmm. guess theyre changing it around.
Anyways, let me know what u all think, and if anyone has any experiences with colder room temps, my friend might be able to help, his room is always 58-61 degrees , and he was able to combat this with insulation around the chamber and so on....so if there are any people goin thru a hard cold winter with a cold house, share your story  We'd  be glad to troubleshoot with you!...
Thanks everyone for your patience, ive put up 3-4 posts up in less than a week and you have all be pretty suportive, great community for sure.
Thanks

I don't know about acheiving humidity by using
heaters but it stands to reason that the air pump
is probably blowing in cold air. If you could situate
it above the chamber so that is catches the heat
that is radiating fhrough the top, it would recycle
it and the heaters wouldn't struggle quite as hard
too keep up. Just my thoughts. Peace.

Are you familiar w/ the perlite humidification tech? I am using perlite and I find my humidity goes up w/ lower temps. Route your air hose into one of the jars, it will pick up humidity and add it to your friends chamber. It will also heat the cooler air from outside. A small shallow container filled 1-2 inches w/ perlite and half as deep w/ water will add humidity w/ little work. It's good to hear your friends problems are going away.
