Is this a good Bow?

I think next spring I might go for my hunting license. (I can't own a gun, so this is what I have to work with... Bow and Arrows baby.)
But I'm new to all of this, so could ya help me out? I'm not looking to spend more than 500$ on a bow, so for the price, is this a good a bow? At least a good enough starter bow to get me a year of hunting?

Bows are more hardcore than crossbows :shrug:

I plan to buy a quality long bow with a heavy drawback some day.

I like them both, but crossbows appeal to me more mainly cuz the way they look :awesome:

Matthews makes good compound bows.

Horton makes good cross bows.  I use muzzy broad heads.

Or a hoyt but they are kind of pricey. I used to use spitfire mechanical broadheads

My younger brother has a PSE in the same price range, but the limbs on that bow pictured are slightly more parallel.  PSE is an ok brand.  If it feels comfortable it should be just fine.

If you can't own a gun due to felony restrictions, crossbow falls under the same interpretation of the word gun in most states.

whats that supposed to mean? compound bows are force multipliers, they are for women. you might as well use a crossbow or gun.

your obviously ignorant on the subject if you dont understand the difference between a compound bow, and a traditional bow.

Lol guys, I'm not looking to be a badass and I could care less if any of the dudes I'm gonna go hunting with say "Look at that pussy ass bow!"
I just need something to START with. If it lasts a year great.

I don't want to go out drop a grand or more on a bow, sit outside all day, and decide "Wow, I hate this shit." and throw over a grand in my closet. The less I can drop, but still have fun, and be effective is what I'm looking for.

But thanks to all the posters with the good tips/advice on bows around my price range, or have confirmed the one I picked to be a decent bow.
I'll accept more of that advice, or bow picks.

At one point crossbows were banned at one point, but only specifically when used against Christians. They were deemed inhumane because they had superior penetrating power that could pierce a knight's armor and required dramatically less expertise to accurately use than a longbow. I think they had greater range, too.

i understand the difference between a compound bow or otherwise--but your argument centred on compound bows being force multipliers--yet that is what any bow is by definition--taken to its logical conclusion, your argument would claim even knives to be for pussies, as they too multiply force

He's regarding the fact that compound bows are designed such that once you've drawn the string back it requires little force to hold it there. Which, incidentally, is why they were designed in the first place.
