High contaminant sporeload in my house & my solution
    #1713820 - 07/14/03 12:05 PM (14 years, 11 months ago)

O.K. STARTED cultivating cubies like 2 yrs agoand every since the beginning I have had zero problem collinising pf jars or wild bird seed. But no matter if I am fruiting pf cakes or cased bird seed I always get contams. What can I do about this. So far my solution has been to spawn scotts 3n1 compost in cat litter trays and case with vermiculite and fruit outside. Works great no slugs, bugs,ORcontams, but the problem is that I cannot use prints taken outdoors to make multi-spore syringes, and agar is beyond my skill level, sso I am reliant on spore vendors.anyone have any ideas. short of moveing to a different house

clone tissue!!!

as soon as you harvest a nice shroom.. carefully take a cut from the inside of the stem and transfer it to a jar of grain.

let the grain colonize and grain transfer it to more jars.... ... ....
the faq has all the details on cloning..

check the archives on www.nansnook.com for some more good info too!

You could try to grow a few indoors in a cleaner enviroment.
If you fruit outdoors there really is no way to keep it all clean, but
if you fruit a cake or two indoors in a filtered fruiting chamber, i would guess you would have a better chance of a clean print.
good luck

I thought that cloning made it nessisary to use agar, I did not know that I could clone by going tissue strait to grain.I'll definately check the faq on that,THANKS

I have bad allergies to cats. I have a cat and I love him and did not want to sell him so I had to clean up the air in my home. I did it with an ionizer. I works! I put several though out the house. I do still have to take anti-histamines and sprays but without the ionizer I would have had to get rid of the cat. It was not that expensive (compared to the cost of medication), only around $60 per ionizer.
check it out www.surroundair.com They will keep your air nice and clean without any noise.

hehe I still have to vacuum the carpet in each room still but the ionizer really works.

Edit: The vacuum cleaner has a HEPA built in.

Cloning tissue straight to grain:
- Cut a piece of mushroom from the inside of the shroom (as described in the cloning teks)
- Transfer this piece to a sterilized jar of grain.
- Let grow.
It isn't that difficult. Just try to work as clean as possible to avoid contams.

You could just do a strait up grain to grain transfer with mycelium growing on a grain, to another grain. That stops having to worry about cloning. You will have to buy a flow hood probably, or use alot of h202 in your jars. Mycofile told me that using 7-10cc's of H202 per jar reduces contams almost as much as the use of a flow hood does, although I have yet to try it.

you don't NEED a flow hood or glove box.. better if you got one.. but not required...

there are many ways to do this..

1- lysol the air... flame a knife, ( careful with flame and lysol.... !!! ) and take a small chunk from the bottom part of the stem..

hold on.. be right back with a link.. it's in there..
