Why do people doubt casters, here in Michigan in a well fertilized and well kept field/lawn, they will sparsed throughout with foes. You can tell the difference easily because the gils have a white/grey/black look where was the foes have a whitish/brown/dark brown tint, and if you cant tell that you, take a print and it turns out black how can you be decieved?

I dunno man...

That difference in gill color could be a little hard to go by, especially if you aren't very experienced with these species in the field (like me!). Also, gill color can change depending on the maturation of spores, can't it?

In addition, when I took a print of some Pan foes that I found in my lawn, I looked at it under kind of dim light and thought it was black. It seems to me that unless you're really experienced, the only way to distinguish between Pan foes and Pan casters is through the use of microscopic techniques.

Namaste.
