White spore print?
    #1543040 - 05/12/03 10:36 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

er, not sure if anyone can answer this but has anyone ever seen any kind of mushroom w/a white spore print? I came across a mushroom growing in the woods behind my house and just took a print of it, just for fun, and it was snow white. The mushroom was bout 4in. across 5in. tall w/gills and a ashen grey cap, any idea what kind it was?

sounds like an amanita this genus contributes the most deaths from mushroom poisoning every year. although there are other mushrooms with white spore prints its not worth making a mistake. you should throw it out. peace

There are a huge number of mushrooms with white spore prints.

Amanita, Lepiota, Hygrocybe, Hygrophorus, Tricholoma, Clitocybe, Mycena, Marasmius, Lactarius, Russula, Laccaria, Collybia, Pleurotus, Omphalina, and Lentinus come quickly to mind. And that's by no means even close to a complete list of white spored genera. Between them they cover thousands of species.

Among them are deadly poisonous mushrooms and some of the best edibles. And everything in between.

If you want an ID you're going to have to give a much more detailed description. If you were just curious about white spore prints, well, I think that here in Colorado I find more white (or nearly white) spored mushrooms than the darker spored varieties.

Happy mushrooming!

That'd be amazing to see a white spore print. Anyway u could scan it somehow... seems like it be almost impossible unless u printed on black paper. Anyway, neat find. Best of luck for future findings.
