When your friend smiles and that makes you happy there is friendship. When your friend suffers and your heart is saddened there is friendship. When someone sees a person lost in delusion and they give them a helping hand that is friendship. When someone points out the error of your ways that is friendship. When your friend is honest with you instead of fake that is friendship. When someone is sad and depressed and you do everything you can to fix that that is friendship. When you die for your friend that is friendship. When you take your friend off the street and find him a job that is friendship. When a hungry man cooks his friends food and serves them first that is friendship. When a man dying of thirst pours you water that is friendship.

that was just a bunch of tautological statements really, :tongue:

respect is needed for genuine friendship. understanding too.
respect for their autonomy and choice. understanding of their weaknesses and theirs of yours.
this can only occur between people who recognize eachother as equals on some level.
