Your favorite instrument...and why?

I am curious to see what sounds really grab people and make them want to listen.

The first few are favs because I either play them or attempt to without much success. They are also some of my fav instruments to hear.

Didgeridoo.  There is something about playing a didge that just centres me, it's a medative process all by itself, and you feel it throughout your whole body.



Ganga giri, simply amazing group, sadly they have achieved more fame outside Australia than they have here.





Not sure if there is anything this guy can't play.




I know it's AFX but the way didge works in this song is perfect in my mind. Hard to believe this track is 20yrs old now.





Harmonica.  This sits in the list of instruments I try to play but fail miserably at.





Bass.

I was going to post a solo but this song is where it's at, what more needs to be said it's Les. 





I know there are many more great bass players but this is the sound that first got me interested in it.


Guitar.....well what to post, I am actually going to post this, because Tom Morello (in my humble eyes) redifined guitar playing and I don't want to exclude electronic music from this thread.




There is more, but I've about two hours sleep before I must be presentable for work.


Please post your thoughts and additions.

I would say the bass guitar, violin, and saxophone are probably my 3 all-time favorite instruments...hard for me to pick just one.

I love the sound of the bass guitar and many of the funky grooves and bass-lines one can come up w/ on it, bands such as Primus, Faith No More, and Red Hot Chili Peppers are great examples of that. It makes me feel chill-out yet lively with it's funky sound. :cool: . However, I also like the sax a lot 'cause I feel it gives music a very deep, "colorful" sound(not sure how else to describe it) that I think is quite psychedelic; if keyboards could be considered the ultimate "psychedelic electronic instrument" then I would say the sax is the ultimate "psychedelic mechanical/non-electronic instrument", at least for me anyway...finally, I love the violin a lot as I feel it gives the music a very emotional edge, at least more so than usual...the classical sound this instrument gives to many bands/artists music is just amazing!

...and so, with that being said, it really IS hard to pick just one as my favorite, but if I absolutely must then I guess it would be the bass guitar...love me some funk!!!

My favorite instrument for a long time has been the Gaohu, an Asian stringed instrument. It has a deep piercing sound and it resonates beautifully. And one string is manipulated to create so many different pitches. There are many instruments that originated in Asia which create music of unmatched beauty and are played by unfathomably skilled hands. But the Gaohu is my favorite of these.

My new favourite is the 'Hang'. Looks like a mix between a UFO and kitchen pots and pans. The sound out of it is epic, like a mellow steel drum.

I'm a massive bongo lover and player, and I'm damn good at it. This thing seems like natural progression.. However, they sell for £1000 odd so it'll be a SPECIAL treat.

Listen to 'Nothing is Something Worth Doing' live at the roundhouse to see what I'm on about. Phenomenal!

With the variety of instruments out there it's hard to pick just one, but I'll name a few and why.

Drums - just awesome.  nothing like good drums :smile:

Good vocals - they can be an instrument to my ears.  i'm talking real good vocals though

guitar/bass - goes great with rock music. lol

ummm, then when it comes to like electronic music, there's a whole bunch more shit that gets added, but I really dig the stuff that artists like Pretty Lights incorporate into their sound.  little piano, little sax, with some great beats and other sounds.  :thumbup:


i guess i like a lot, the most important part is how these instruments are played :wink:
