Shit I've seen bassnectar at least 7 times, $50 is still a lot for a dj IMO. usually a 2hr set with shitty opening djs

...meanwhile eoto, playing real live instruments mind you, sell their tickets around $15/$20 and have been for at least the last 3 years

saw eoto in Athens some months ago, shit was tooo fucking raw and I was only drinking. The new lotus stage is awfully pretty.

just because you play instruments on stage doesn't make you more talented than someone who uses electronic equipment...it takes just as much know-how to do what bassnectar does, if not more.

lemme do what the kids do nowadays.

bassnectar > grateful dead

i chose the dead because they never used simplistic dj type tools. all they played were pure instruments with years of talent and improvisation beyond what most bands have ever done for the longest time, good choice eh?:dancingbear: Only time they busted out something close was only during "drums" and the electronics were used as accents. Oh yea and almost everybody dislikes that portion of the show. :dancingbear:

go to your show brah, im sure youll have fun. pretty much what all the haters including myself having been trying to get at is........

have fun but seriously, find a better music genre because its crap in every sense of the word.

as for eoto, they used to be dope back in the day, same with tribe. problem is, both bands went to focus their flow on the masses resulting in shitty 1-2 note bass riffs which flood out every other instrument and prevent any kind of cohesive playing which would result in a jam. they are simply trying to latch onto the dubstep following due to its numbers. pretty damn sad in my opinion and thats why all the REAL heads are salty.

why bother trying to put together an argument for or against a type of music when you're just going to call an entire music genre shit...literally no less!

i love bassnectar and the dead, but i'm not stupid enough to try to compare the two...

So what you said is --> Bands with instruments > producers/djs per se.  Seems kinda closed minded brah.  Post a "good back in the day" EOTO show to back up what you're saying.  They only started in 06...  Tribe is playing the best they have in years.  You seriously have no clue what you're talking about.

word i get what all yall are sayin. dude said that he thought djs had a harder job than people who play instruments, so i came up with a half assed rebuttle using the grateful dead as an example of a band that plays instruments. never tried saying one music genre is better than the other im just saying im not a fan.

this isnt a yelling match, if we were all sitting around the fire talking about the same thing it would lead to more positive understanding instead of simplistic type which conveys difficult to read emotions.

Bassnectar is legit, man. I'd say it's pretty pricey.. but if you go all out, take a molly, or drop some cid.. Your mind will be blown away.

The Bassnectar experience is a rush. Filled with some love. There's amBASSadors there to keep the vibe up and hydrate the crowd.

All in all.. I'd say GO FOR IT! It's pricey! But worth it

Also, if can ever catch Kalya Scintilla, do so!

I didn't say it was 'harder' I said know-how because that's why being an electronic artist is challenging...it's basically like being a sound engineer up there.  But really it does come down to the individual artist.  Still, no reason to discriminate against people with launch-pads and laptops.

My friend was bashing the shit out of this video I was watching the other day:
(I know hes not a dubstep producer but the point still stands)

Saying it takes no talent to press a button... He obviously has never played an instrument which requires to to use your fingers...to press a key...which is almost all of them. Minus using vibrato if you play a woodwind, its all the same. If im playing the sax I use all of my fingers minus the one in the thumb position. Ligature and air pressure being the only other factors that make me a "musician" according to his logic. So the guy who presses buttons on a maschine/mpc what ever doesn't do the same thing except he has MORE buttons and knobs to deal with doesnt deserve the credit? Fuck that.

Plus if you have any legitimacy in the scene you create all of your own sounds through personal tweeking and formulating...just like someone who plays any instrument out there except its more in depth. Give any of these haters ableton live, a keyboard, an mpc, and a mixing station they would be going bat shit crazy trying to figure it all out on their own.

Sorry to get off topic, but being on both sides of the fence; playing classic instruments and attempting to make digital music...they both are hard as fuck. Don't discredit someone because it involves a computer. This wasn't in response to anyone's comment btw, just wanted to get that out there because I hear the same comment all the time.

Sorry but no.  If a producer plays LIVE like lazer sword I could see it but thats almost never the case.  Most of the newer producers are subpar djs --. Especially in dubstep.  Not only do instrumentalists have to write the music but they have to play the entirety perfect every show and communicate so everyone is on the same page during improv jams.  I'm a huge edm fan but to posit that any dj is as competent as the best jam bands is ridiculous besides insanely good techical djs like Carl cox.  I am confident that there is not a single dubstep dj that requires the same precision and talent as a jam band.  Sorry.

theres your "back in the day" eoto show, and yeah of course i was there i got a van to sleep in on tour. it was only 2008 but they definitely DONT sound like that now. dubstep ruined that band. im an old dude and time flies so the phrase "back in the day" means more to me then most.

id love to meet the people who go on tour with bassnectar. gotta be some interesting folks for sure

It doesnt matter if its live, when someone plays a shows its planned either way. Electronic or not. These people go around doing 15-40 shows with the same set...practice is all it takes. I agree with you though, dubstep probably has the lowest percent of talent out there in comparison to other genres. I wasnt really backing dubstep, I was backing the people out there who create original music that doesnt involve the typical methods. Notice I didnt mention dubstep in that post except to point out araabmuzik wasn't a dubstep producer. I was speaking of the EDM scene in general. I also didnt downplay the abilities of a jam band, didnt even mention them...
