A book worth $30,00 Dollars
    #3060947 - 08/28/04 04:59 AM (12 years, 3 months ago)

I was at a friends house tonight and he was showing me this book he found a few weeks ago. He was cleaning out this old house his grandfather just bought. When he went into the attic he found a box with one huge book and another normal size book. He started looking at the bigger book, i can't remember the name but it was something like "New Found lands" or something like that. The Date on the book was 1621!! So he took the it to an antique book store in new orleans and they priced it at $30,00 dollars, the guy told him that the book came with original hand drawn maps (that were sadly not in the book anymore) that are worth about $10,00 dollars each. He is trying to sell it now but hasn't found anyone to buy it yet.

The other book was a some sort of medical guide used in the civil war.

why is there only two zeros after each comma?

I can see a typo but you did it 3 times.

Interesting story though.

That's the European way of writing the decimal point in dollars and cents.

I have some old books (one from 1890's and some others from the 1910's).  I don't know if they're worth any money though.

One of the books I have is a history book that was used in high schools.  It is very amazing how the educational system has changed because in this book it says, "We will be examining the accomplishments of the White, ancient Arab, and ancient Oriental races.  We will not examine the African race because it has not contributed anything of value to modern civilization".     Wow!

We have books here that are about that old - along with letter to my boyfriends stepfather's father from the president at that time, inviting him to a meeting to discuss the economic state of the country

And there's a chair upstairs that was owned by King Richard and a bunch of other weird shit.  Everytime I go upstairs I feel like I'm walking around a museum

I own multiple pieces of silver and gold that are worth more than $30.00

WAY more. what is the point of this? rare things are valuable? They are worth more to keep as an appreciation of the history that allowed you to possess them than they are on the market.

I once found a first printing of Hawthorne's "Mosses for Old Manse" in a used book store being sold for 50 cents. Scooped that sucker right up.

I love collecting old books. Course, I'm an english professor, so I'm a bit wierd about these things.

My parents got a collection of Poe books printed the 1880's when a family member died.

I wonder if those are worth anything.

Funk & Wagnalls Company

and it was made is 1904, not the 1880's. I must have read the date somewhere else in the book and gotten confused.
