Tomatos Poll.
    #16472470 -

Alright. If you haven't had a homegrown, organic tomato then you are missing out.

Homegrown tomato sandwiches with home baked bread is the best. That's the 10-4 alright ?

I think that texture aside, if you blind folded someone and had them eat a homegrown tomato then eat a commercial grocery store tomato, they would think they were different vegetables. But I guess this goes with most homegrown shit.

to the poll...

If there are errors on this or it sucks in general then I apologize. I was in a hurry. I will patch later if necessary.

Tomatoes by themselves or raw are fucking disgusting. Don't want 'em on my sandwiches, don't want them on my anything. Salsa, ketchup, tomato sauce, even cooked tomatoes on things don't bother me too much, but just regular ol' tomatoes gross me out.

the reason for such a bog difference is the harvesting time, most US
tomatoes are grown in california or florida, they have to go through a lot
of handling and shipping, this is several days so they harvest the tomatoes
early, just as they start to blush and then expose them to ethylene gas to
speed the reddening, they still arent actually ripe. of course this early
picking means that we're subjected to a lower quality of flavor and a
grainy texture making them quite bland

fresh bread, biscuit and tomato with butter. doesnt matter, fresh tomatoes are great

A fresh brandywine from the garden is like... 100 million billion times better than a store bought tomato.

Seriously.. brandywines, buy some to plant next year.
Fresh cracked pepper with a little red wine vinegar...

--------------------
It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus.
All year long, the grasshopper kept burying acorns for winter, while the
octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV.
But then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns.
Also he got a race car.
Is any of this getting through to you?

Okay I should have added this question into the poll.

Do any of you who like tomatoes, like eating them plain ? Zilch on the salt and pepper ?

I don't think I really know anyone who eat's plain ones. With the exception of the cherry tomato. Seems like everyone is using salt and pepper ya know ?

I have this accelerating love for tomatoes but I still need salt and pepper to really dig on them. Go figure right ? I think most americans, or people in general just have a solid addiction to salt. Salt is so important to us all...

some people become disgusted by a food because of a previous bad experience, or their first experience with said food was a bad one.

thus shitty commercial tomatoes grown with chemicals may have this effect on some tomato users and or tomato haters

dont be a tomato hater

cultivating your own fruit/veggies is always better if your thumb is green

I love tomatoes! I eat them like apples sometimes. I would more often but they tend to spray everywhere.

Love tomatoes of all types and Pris beat me to the whole harvesting time ethylene gas trick.  Tomatoes aren't the only fruit that this happens to.

My favorite way is sliced tomatoes on pizza.  NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM seriously.  Since it's tomato season right now my store has been carrying these little bags of San Marzano tomatoes that taste like candy they're so sweet.  If you can find 'em I recommend them.

Anyways, guess I should just point out on the poll:  Ketchup isn't a successor to tomatoes.  In fact, ketchup existed before tomatoes were ever "discovered," since tomatoes are a New World crop.

What ??? you serious ? after this I'm going to spend the time googling this. I never thought them as new world. I thought italians had been using them since 4ever. Interesting !

Okay everyone. This may sound way stupid. But are any of you aware of 'wild vegetables" ?? Of all the camping and outdoors I have done and the different climates and locations I figured that I would have at least seen something edible growing. I have seen wild raspberries and strawberries but that is it.  Not even any fruit trees in the wild.

What gives ? I dont understand. I would be happy if I stumbled upon some squash or carrots in the wild ya know ? what is up with this ??

I'm far from sharp. Can anyone enlighten me here ?
