Left the damn foil on
    #16434876 -

i steamed up a batch of brf jars and set them aside going on 2 days now as i wait for the spores. [there coming in today] but i left the foil on like an ass tard. last night when i realized what i did i immediately took the foil off and wiped with alcohol. The thing that irked me a little was odd colored spots on the tape. Could have just been wet verm on the tape. Anyone else ever done this? should i continue with the inoculation today?

I just use tinfoil....

One layer during sterilization, innoc and cover with another layer of foil.

Works fine... cakes are full proof.

Exactly what is full proof?  It sounds like something a wedding photographer would send to the bride and groom.

The foil should be removed as soon as jars come out of the sterilizer.  This is to prevent the dry verm filter from becoming damp, which will allow contaminants to colonize through it to reach the rice flour supplemented verm below.

Since you are using cakes, I would agree with RR here. When it comes to grain, I leave the foil sealed on with rubber bands till inoculation. I feel it keeps them sterile underneath even though I use tyvek. If sealed well enough, you can leave it on for cakes.

Ive never had a contaminate from leaving the foil on the jar.... Using foil lids....

If anything the verm barrier gets colonized from moisture but I would love to know how to pressure cook a jar without causing moisture evaporation....

Im just assuming that these pf cakes were made in jars using the lids themselves.... and even then moisture is going to evaporate from the sub and dampen the filter.... pffft, come off of it.

Thanks for the quick responces everyone i appreciate it. Just inoculated my 12 jars about a half hour ago with some amazonian spores, so we'll see how it goes. My last (& first) grow i had over 2 ounces between 8 cakes and 3 flushes. This time i wana try casing my cakes to trays with a lil coir, n see how that goes  :kimjong:

Which is why it must be removed as soon as possible. . .so the verm can dry out and do its job of acting as a filter rather than a conduit.

The art of growing mushrooms is not about how much you can do wrong and still have a 50/50 chance of success, but rather how to line up all the necessary factors to achieve 100% success.
