Man this shit is putting me to sleep. To quote the Danish tennis player-turned-drummer for Metallica, It just sounds stock to my ears.

How are you seriously going to compare this shit to 80's Metallica or thrash or heavy/speed or the fuck ever metal? Next point: albums like ...And Justice just are not made these days. No one glorifies the melodic, harmonic and rhythmic potential of dueling electric guitars in grandiose song structures the way those assholes did. All the songs and all the albums had a different and unique feel and they were experimenting and growing in leaps all the way along.

People will say Metallica was shit and point you to some death or doom or other completely one-dimensional shit, it's really not convincing. Metallica was incredibly melodic and wrote great songs AND epic albums and had a singer who could sing and yell like a motherfucker and take masterful solos. None of these fucking modern genre metal dipshits can do all that.

tool isn't afraid to take years between albums, and probably wouldn't become so business oriented that they'd release a total piece of shit to rip off the trip heads that are head over heals in love with tool.

that's pretty much what metallica did though.

worm ourobourus is great.  some good suggestion in this thread pertaining to more contemporary harder music, as opposed to headbanger type stuff.
try some of this somewhat similar music.
p.s. OP, all this stuff is not even remotely close to metallica...

I can get into most of the music that's been posted. Especially the Neurosis. I have their album Given to the Rising. If I remember correctly they are the precursor to bands such as Isis. I like the long drawn out "prog metal" (for lack of a better term) where the musicians aren't afraid the let the composition breathe and undulate like a sine wave.
