It can be done, but you usually end up with burnt rice, or whatever you try to nuke. Microwaves only heat up the water in whatever you try to cook. As a result your cakes will usually become too dry to use. Water content can be increased to have better chances, but in general I would stick with either steaming jars or a pressure cooker. The extra time is worth it in the long run.

The only way I have succesfully frutied was thrugh Micro wave. add a little extra water not too much! and when you stick them in the micro wave make sure it has a little hole maybe about 1 mm diamiter. then when it cools off (this takes for ever) do not put it in the fridge or freezer. An rubbermaid container takes about 5 hours to cool at room temp. I have had better luck sliceing the 100% colonized cakes into 6ths and caseing each individualy. Use your brain when you do this theres a lot of little things, but most people who have the will to read and ask questions have the brains to learn what to do. oh yeah ...inculate over an oven...and cover the holes after inculation.
