Isn't the inside of a microwave contaminate free?

I've read when sterilizing your casing material in the microwave, you need to spray lysol before microwaving and once at the half way point. But I'm curious, after 10 minutes in the microwave shouldn't everything thats in the microwave be sterile?

No, it's not sterile. Microwaves don't heat their content evenly, that's why they rotate the dish inside. If you put a pizza leftover that was attacked by ants inside for 30 seconds, they survive. They're fast enough to avoid the points where microwaves amplify.

I put a cat in a microwave for 5 seconds and she said she felt fine :-D
Is your question "Should i clean my microwave before i put my casing in there" then:
YES. Get off your lazy ass and clean your microwave. You cook food in there, and you know how many contams a tv dinner probably has on it.
No reason not to keep it all clean in there anyway

If I may be serious for a minute. Microwaves are horribly filthy. Assuming you have completly cleaned everything inside so it looks good enough for your mom to come visit, it's still filthy. The reason is the magnetron tube is behind that plastic cover, and air pumps from the inside of the microwave through there to cool it and back. Any leftovers that make steam get that steam and other slop pumped into areas that can't be cleaned.
With that said, you don't want to sterilze your casing mix anyway. You want to pasteurize your casing mix. It's easy to do in a large pot of water in quart jars. Just put the jars of moistened casing mix or compost in a large kettle(the PC works great) of cold water, then cover and bring it to a boil. Once it comes to a boil, shut off the stove. Leave the jars sitting in the hot water for an hour, then remove. It's simple as that and no mess, no pillow case, no draining. Microwaves should be used for pizza and ants, not mycology. RR

You can also use plastic bags. Low temps don't melt them.

There are teks that use microwave but its safer to use oven.. On a side note, microwaving animals is fucked.. although i have nuked a spider for about 10 minutes and the only thing that i noted was after about 8 minutes he started to become lethargic and at 9min 26 sec he fell from top of ceiling of microwave and stopped moving... when it stopped he got back up and continued walking around

I've done this as well, 2 times actually, in the same day... fucking bastards shouldn't have invaded my home, eaten my candy, and then stepped on the damn glue pad I put down.
So I microwaved it for 10 seconds, it was dead between 3 and 5 seconds after a hellish squeak (more than the ones from being on a sticky trap)
So, I returned the sticky trap to the floor, and low and behold within 10 minutes another mouse came to check on it's "sleeping" sibling...so I decided to see what 5 seconds did, and it was dead before it beeped, after another hellish squeak.
Fucking bastard field mice better not touch my peanut butter bon bons again!!! They're mine I tell you, all mine!!!
Oriental cockroaches don't live very long in a microwave either.

I don't think it degraded. I think the torch was just passed on. The part I find funny is that when someone says they microwaved ants, nobody complained. Then someone mentions a mouse and suddenly it's a freakin crime!
