I think those are death caps. I wouldn't eat them. I'm not really sure...but usually white spores are a sign of a poisonous mushroom. I'm not the most knowledgable but I wouldn't eat them until you have a definate O.K. from someone who really knows their shit. Good luck!

From the looks of things, YES! They're VERY POISONOUS! Do NOT eat! They look very much like Chlorophyllum molybdites, a very poisonous(but not deadly) mushroom. If you take a spore print, it should come out green. You didn't say what these were growing from-- was it grass? I saw ToxicMan or Mr Mushrooms say that people who are poisoned by these mushrooms are normaly in so much pain that they wish they were dead. If it's not C. molybdites then it is some other type of Lepotia(about 90% on that one). There a several very dangerous Lepotias. Do not eat under any circumstances.

As the others have said, it could be any of several poisonous species. It's also possible that it's an excellent edible species.
Have you done a spore print yet? If not, please do one and let us know.
Next, I'd like you to cut the mushroom in half vertically, then scrape the inside with your knife edge (not gently - you're trying to bruise it), and let us know what colors it turns. It should take just a few minutes for the color changes.
Another tip for future collecting - it's very important to see the bottom of the stem for identifying a number of kinds of mushrooms. So make sure you get the entire base of the mushroom and show it to us in a photo.
Until we know for sure, as the others said, DO NOT EAT. None of the poison species it could be are things you ever want in your body.
Keep us posted.
Happy mushrooming!

I concur... They look similar to Chlorophyllum molybdites. Spore print should come out greenish, and they would most likely be growing in the grass.

as a florida resident, i am 99.9% sure that is Chloryphyllum molibdites. They grow EVERYWHERE, 5 on each lawn during july-september. and all throughtout the year occuring more frequently for a week or two.
young specimens have white gills. older start darkening and turning slightly green from the spores, which are green.
POISONOUS, do not eat.

I saw them in Jaksonville, Florida in March and April of 1979. So that extends their growing range.

i mean, do you not see that greenish puke color deep in the gills? like there might have been a hint of forest green mold growing up in that piece!!!? prolly the chlorophyllum. all too common, too prolific, too big - and causing way too much poop and way too much vomitousness. they will make you cry and shit fire. as for the mysterious rubbery red ones. what the hey, post pictures, foo! word

Those are definately C. molybdites.
We call them "Green Gills" here in Florida.
It is poisonous and it is also one of the most common mushrooms found in FLA.

Greenish gills mean what everybody's been saying - Chlorophyllum molybdites. That mushroom is responsible for more poisonings than any other species. Deaths are extremely rare (and basically happen because the person was in bad shape to begin with).
Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal cramping (about as painful as having surgery!), and something described in the books as "explosive, sometimes bloody, diarrhea." I'm not sure exactly what that last bit means, but I'm sure I don't want to experience it or be around somebody who is.
And now you know why it causes so many poisonings. It's big, smells good, looks good (and I've heard it tastes good, too), and it's damn near irresistable for some people. Nasty.
Happy mushrooming!
