I see, thanks.

Obviously there are people that want to avoid jury duty for whatever selfish reason, so they might try to align their image with something from your list.  But what about the other end of the spectrum?  As in someone who wants get on the jury, and fits a description on your list in reality but portrays himself or herself as the perfect juror to make the cut.  Does this happen often?  Is it really possible to know how often it happens (or if it happens)?  Do you have a method for spotting these people (if they exist) and weeding them out?

All I can say is that you try to spot them...Eventually, you develop a sense of jurors...it's somewhat of a intuitive thing...As time goes on you get better at it...

I've missed many bad jurors...and probably dismissed many good ones...

Exactly.  Don't worry about it.  Pris is just on my case because I hate the DEA.  He hates it when people don't support the DEA.

If you don't support the dea/drug war then why would you not want to go and plead not guilty for a drug user?

Only you can stop the war on drugs.

Pris makes a good point. If I was on trail for a drug charge, I would
rather have you on the jury rather than someone who's going into to the
trail already "knowing" that drugs are bad. It might not change anything
as far as the DEA goes, but you could make a difference in someones life.

you realize that this shows us all the level of your character when you have
the chance to let a man go free that's being prosecuted under the very laws
you oppose because "you have to get back to work" even though your employer
is required by law to pay you your normal salary for the days you serve and
the county pays you compensation for your time, locally it's $50/day

but hey, let the guy fry, what does it matter that you being on that jury
could make a difference in not just that man's life but in the system as a
whole, possibly eliminating or bringing under review the drug laws in your
state and ultimately the nation... well, we see the kind of person you
really are Mr. Arnold, feel free to sell out your comrades so you can "get
back to work"

the catholic church still refuses to canonize me

yes, this does show the level of his character because he's one of the more
outspoken against the drug war, of course his methods are silly such as
making a thread on the shroomery to say "some retarded shit happened
'because if the drug war'" even when it had nothing to do with the drug
war. now the HR employee of some large evil corporation, one that's in
charge of firing people because they failed their drug test in addition to
administering drug tests for said evil corporation has the chance to make a
positive change for a chance... but instead he opts to let someone else
serve o the jury who may find the defendant guilty over what may be a
simply possession charge that in his words "would totally fuck their life
up for ever"

sorry but I call it as I see it, the maneuver he's been pulling for some
time is known to most of us as 'selling out his principals and values'

so if you dont support the DEA then why on earth are you supporting the laws
they enforce by trying to shrug off jury duty, me, I'm on your case because
you've sold out, you talk a great game but you dont stand behind what you
say, you may as well strap the poor drug offenders into the electric chair
yourself because to hear you describe it a drug offense is a death sentence

I gotta agree with that. For as much as anyone wants to bitch about "the system" and how corrupt it is, how can you just throw away your chances at getting thoroughly involved and inputting your opinion into something that will have a very real world effect?

Not serving jury duty, to me, is worse than not voting.

I do not agree with what you said one bit. Just because someone is outspoken about a certain issue that they disagree with does not mean they are liable to ALL functions of government. Jury duty has nothing to do with changing the system that is in place, its about convicting or freeing someone who somehow got into trouble with the law. You have the freedom to be neutral and do nothing at all. It is your decision. You can't assess someones level of character just because they have more important things to do than deal with someone else problems.

My problems are not your problems and yours aint mine. Why should I care about going on jury trial if I have more important things to do at the moment?

You can evaluate just how important issues in someones life is and you can interpret that because they feel like they have important issues in their life that they need to go out of their way to judge some random guy they don't know nor care about?

I don't think you can do that. That isn't for you to decide.

we are the government, "of the people, by the people" it is us, the people
that have the final say in the laws in this nation, it us us that has the
final say in prosecution in this nation, "we the members of the jury find
the defendant ____________"

jury duty isnt only about finding someone guilty or not guilty, it's also
about a review of the laws, if the people in the US dont agree with the
laws they have a long process to go through to get the laws stricken, the
people serving on jury duty have an immediate effect because it calls the
law into question "should someone be penalized for a non violent offense,
one that has no victim other than the user, if you can even call a user a
victim since they make the choice to use and one that has resulted in no
losses to anyone else and put no one else in jeopardy?"

to the contrary, I can and I have as have many others here, is this any
different than the guy that's outspoken about gun violence yet carry's a
pistol to defend himself against attack? no, it's moral hypocrisy, it's the
selling out of ones values while still insisting you maintain them

your problems are mine if I'm on a jury and you're on trial

If we're really gonna go into "you can judge someone based on how they involve themselves in others problems," then you're all fucking assholes for not building schools in africa and helping poor little ugandan kids getting clean drinking water. You're on the internet bitching about someone not wanting to do jury duty. You're doing SO much for you fellow man though...

Based on that quote, I'm inclined to believe you truly are a piece of shit who only cares about himself.

You think volunteering at the soup kitchen is boring? You think it's boring to do community service? You think it's boring serve duty jury?

No shit, it is boring. You have the ability to help someone and rather than that you care about your "fun"

From now on please never bitch about the drug war.

That wasn't a suggestion. I am saying you sound like a slacker, chances are you look like a slacker. They'll probably cut you loose without you having to do anything.

My father gets called to jury duty a couple times a year and every single time, they send him home because they think he looks like the type that would sentence everyone to death, even if its just a minor traffic violation.
