dj's what do you think about this midi controller?
    #16025813 -

Iv'e been using traktor 2 with my mouse and keyboard for too long now,  Finally decided I'm serious about this so I'm selling my guitar and some other stuff.  Should bring in $600ish too $1000.

Iv'e looked at tuns of controllers and specifically for ones that have like 16 effects knobs,  It seems like they pretty much all come with 8, 4 or none so I just found a nicer looking one with some nice big tables.

This is it http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/DJ/Controllers/DDJ-ERGO

And for only $500 I might have some money left over for an effects controller like the Kontrol X1,  Maybe some new tweeters and a little sub also :]

What do ya'll think?

Get Maschine:
http://www.native-instruments.com/#/products/producer/maschine/

It integrates with Traktor.

Or you can always use one of the traktor controllers - (Kontrol s2 or s4 is my recommendation)

The first one is not really what I'm looking for.  S2 or S4 are just what I'm looking for but the ergo is like a better version of the S2 I think, it isn't made by the traktor people but it integrates awesomely with traktor and serato.  Its jog wheels are 115mm also.

I would personally try to track down a pioneer CDJ or two and a mixer.

you might be able to do it for 1k.

i dont know what they go for used these days.

CDJs are awesomesauce and they are an industry standard so if you ever end up doing a show you could be familiar with the resident equipment.

im just not a fan of "all in one" equipment, i find they usually leave stuff to be desired.

ooooooooorrrrrr!!!!

BUY AN ACCESS VIRUS SYNTH YEEEAH!

i still want one of those to replace my roland jp-8000

but ill always love my jp-8000

Yeah - CDJs are sick.. Plus with traktor you can use CDJs.
Currently I have 2 CDJs and Maschine - traktor allows full integration with the cdjs and maschine allows better control of effects and sounds

Yeah.... except that even used CDJ 1000 MK3s are $600+ EACH, PLUS a mixer

Get a Kontrol S4.  I have one, it's fucking awesome.  You can't beat it for the price.

Man Iv'e been comparing the ergo and the S4 and the S4 kinda makes the ergo look like a toy.  Iv'e been watching video's and that 4 deck control is awesome.  How do the jog wheels feel?  Do you wish they were bigger?

The cheapest I found an S4 for was 720 shipped.  I just found an ergo on craigslist for $400!

My estimate on budget was probably a little high also.

I absolutely wish the jog wheels were bigger, but any controller is going to be a compromise.  I did a ton of research, and the S4 had the least compromises for me.

Alright, thanks.  Think I'm shooting for the S4 now.  With the the S4 you could add on two turntables of your choice anyways cuz it has the mixer controllers for it right?

Then get the Maschine, a Kontrol X1, Novation Dicer's and a chaos pad

Absolutely.  I'm gonna roll with it for a couple years, then add CDJs as I can afford, then sell it buy a mixer.

Sweet.. I don't see what a mixer has better than this, you would just need effects controllers and other stuff maybe??

Its funny 2 S2's would cost about the same as an S4,  Thats not really an ideal setup tho.

I meant a mixer, not a DJ controller, to hook up to CDJs.  I eventually want CDJs and a mixer, not a controller.

shroomery best for laid back discussion though

and I'm curious to see what ya'll will say to this...

I think the sample decks for traktor kind of suck.  Its already limited with only 4 fx buttons shared between all the decks but with sample decks the 4 samplers will be sharing fx, eq and whatnot, just as if they were a track deck split into 4 groups, actually thats odd because I heard that producers might start releasing 4 track songs making scratching with sampler decks not only awesome but THE Future(of this style mixing).  Anyways because of the limitations I almost feel more comfortable using 4 decks than 2 and 2 sample decks.  But then if I wanted to make a song just from samples I can only have 4 :[ I don't think that will work

With ableton you get unlimited tracks pretty much with eq and fx seprettly controlled on each one.  To me this makes allot of since.

I'm not sure if I wana say by by to scratching completely.  There are ways to use traktor/serato and ableton together tho.

I pretty much want everything and I'll keep changing my mind

I DONKNOW

S4 has the most functionality and the best bang for your Buck.  You can use an S4 with Ableton if you end up going that route.

You want everything, but everything is several thousand dollars.  You have to start with something.

Two turntables and a microphone suckas  :eatingout:
I just started messin with cd's and it feels so fake compared to vinyl... I do like the built in fx though. Midi controller?? tracktor?? the hell is all this???
I was running everything through my guitar amp to use it's delay and reverb fx, but then realized it was turning my output into mono
Right now i'm looking for some effects and serious eq control maybe a sampler/looper/sequencer.
And a microphone, definitely need a microphone.

the future of DJing

I still mix with CDJs and Vinyl turntables at parties but don't own either as I just use other people's.

oh yeah, and vinyl is king when it comes to straight mixing.  Can't beat the feeling.

True that.  I'm sure I could do some crazzy mapping and use ableton and traktor with the s4, but I'm getting ahead of myself.  I'll stick to my to original plan: learning on a controller, the s4.  And I wasn't trying to dis traktor or any thing, its freaking awesome, but I hope to get the ableton kind of control one day or maybe I'll feel differently once I get a real controller.
