Nope, they don't. They hear some happy hardcore clubber bullshit on the radio and say "THIS FUCKING SUCKS!". And rightly so. I can't comprehend why the "artists" that made that shit want to get out of bed in the morning. But they don't just say "this fucking sucks," they say "all techno/trance/etc. sucks!" It's understandable. It's the same as when I hear rap/hip-hop and think to myself "damn, this rap/hip-hop is total crap." It's easier to generalize your opinion for an entire genre of music which you know nothing of.

Exactly, there more to Dj'in than just mixing beats. I've been doing it for about 2 years now and mixing is just the basics to it all. The ability for a DJ to "read" the crowd and put that track that will make the crowd go crazy is the most important. Also Most Dj's will usually pre-organize their mixes and repeat them at other shows cause alot of thought goes into them. Alot of Dj's organize what tracks would go best with eatchother by harmonic mixing and such.
Nah, believe me, thats not hard at all. Reading a crowd is just about as hard as bending down to pick up a nickle. All it takes is showing up to your gig early and watching what the crowd reacts to, knowing your audience is more important then choosing "the perfect record". If a crowd is really getting down to some gabber, there's a pretty good chance they're not going to want to hear some melodic trance.
PREPROGRAMMING YOUR SETS ARE CRAP. There is no way around that, if you come to a gig with a set preplanned you do not deserve to ride the wheels. That's laziness, not "a lot of thought". If you're impressed by a dj that sat in his room and practiced mixing 12 records over and over for a week straight, you might as well just go play a cd in your car then go to a club.
There's a difference between memorizing your records, and memorizing a set list. When you memorize your records you're prepared for everything, what if you tag team with another dj, what if no one is digging your style that night, if you have a preplanned set you're fucked!
Look im not going to deny the fact that spinning takes SOME talent. However creating a tight, well produced, innovative piece of music is infinitely harder then mixing two records together.

Oh I totaly agree that preplanning sets is crap. I was just pointing out the reason alot of Dj's do it though. Everytime Im spinnin I just pull that next record that seems like its perfect for that moment. I havent got the chance to experiece playing for a crowd. Its just more of a hobby for me at the moment.
But Im gonna not even going to disagree with ya that producing is a bit harder. I've been trying to make my own tracks but they always turn out like crap. Theres so much much work that goes into a great song. An uplifting trance song alone has about 12 different layers of sounds/melodies at its peak moment in the song. So anybody who can organize it and make it flow perfectly deserves major props.

you use fruity loops for samples and as a ghetto sequencer. You create loops in fruity loops and then import them into other programs to manipulate and sequence.
Overall fruity loops is crap for production, BUT, its a ton of fun to play with. If you're looking to get your feet wet and learn the basics of production you cant beat acid. It's pretty easy to find ripped copies of, easy to use, and you can make some decent sounding tracks with it.
When you really want to get into production thats when you start buying hardware and step up to some real production programs. Buy yourself a sampler, a mixing board, a synth, maybe a drum machine, and then add in cubase and reason to your software collection. Both programs have some STEEP ass learning curves, but you wont get anywhere in the production world without learning them.
Production is a hefty investment if you want to get serious about it, id start saving up now if i were you
