Can't afford lawyer...

I'm at a general loss of WTF to do right now

I NEED a lawyer to help defend me, as I'm pretty sure the only evidence against my case is AUDIO evidence, which as I understand, is dismissable in court.

Apparantely I sold a CI a half zipper of nug, and now I'm pretty screwed as this is my second offense, and my state is not very lenient.

I'm almost positive who it was, as I don't fuck with half zippers, ever.

.. an ex. friend who got in trouble for selling blow to a cop... what an idiot..

IDK what to do,  I resisted my arrest too... I have  my trial courts soon, I've been looking for lawyers but No one will take payment plans, they all want 5k before they will touch it, and I don't even have 1 right now Since I lost my job
and am scared to do anything. 

I'm just in need of advice from  some who have been there before,  not exactly DO THIS... but if I were in your shoes advice...

That's really unfortunate, it amazes me when the cops bust people for selling small amounts of weed, even when not everyone they bust is a dealer.

The only advice I have is to do some googling on how to get the most out of a free attourney... there's a lot out there. You want to stand out from the rest of his/her clients.

I wish you luck.

It wouldn't hurt to see if you can find a lawyer that will work with you on financing.

i know this isn't what you want to hear, but you really do need to get a lawyer somehow. is there some form of Legal aid type service in your city?? free legal advice/representation provided by the government?? or even just a not-for-profit run organisation that helps people out with legal troubles??


it might be an idea to contact the police and let them know your situation, with your upcoming court case etc, and ask them what your options are as far as acquiring some free or cheap legal services??


if you go in to defend yourself without a proper lawyer you are severely disadvantaging yourself. it's shitty but thats the way it is. you need to be represented by someone who knows what their doing and understands the situation. for e.g. evidence given from a witness in court that isn't cross examined by the opposing party is accepted to be true and correct. someone who isn't a lawyer wouldn't know this, and so if you were to not respond to some evidence that was produced it could be detrimental to your case.


again not to be the bearer of bad news, but you really don't want to be relying on the advice given to you on a psychedelic drug based forum, because lets face it, majority of the people here, including myself, really have no idea what they're talking about.

I dont see why it wouldn't be admissible in court.  There could be some audio recording laws specific to a state, a wiretapping kind of thing, youd have to look into that.  But I think there are no hearsay issues since it's literally a recording of what happened.

Even if it was, which I guess I could see, it would probably still come in as an admission under the Federal Rules 801(d)(2)

U need a good lawyer man take out whatever money you can, loan, ect whatever it will be worth it in the end as you will most likely get reduced or some other form of time probation depending on the circumstances but a good lawyer is priceless in our court system.

Perhaps get a public defender in the mean time there are plenty of ways to stall the court process...that should buy you some time until you can get a better lawyer or whatever then you can just say you are unsatisfied with your public defender.

I got student legal services when I needed help with no cash.. was free since I made less than 40k the previous year. Just needed to show my T4.
It didn't do me very well however.. but it gave me comfort knowing someone will stand for me.
don't know where you're at though, maybe they don't have the same services.

Basically dude you have to pull every string possible to get a good lawyer. Beg, borrow, get two jobs and ask for as many adjournments as you can so that you can make the money, try and give them half up front, take cash advances on Credit Cards--do whatever you have to do to hire a decent attorney.

Get a continuance, save money. If you can't get the cash on the next date get a public defender. Make him get you a continuance. Save more money.

Ask around and see who your buddies use. You'd be surprised at how often the same names come up.

Get the best god damned lawyer you can afford

Sounds like they have more than audio. They probably snapped some pics of your meet. I hope they fucked up somewhere      Good luck

well... given the situation the OP said he was in, i.e. being caught trafficking drugs... it really might not be wise to try and fight the charges. if he has been caught and arrested for trafficking drugs, theres not really much room for him to say he's not guilty. maybe if you can find a technicality somewhere....


it more becomes a sentencing issue in my opinion. his lawyer could try and negotiate a plea bargain, to have some of the charges dropped or down graded, or he could use his guilty plea to gain a concession and reduction in his sentence.












also OP, when it comes to sentencing, it will look much more favorable if you can show you've taken steps to improve your situation since your arrest, and to show that your taking the process seriously. so things like rehab (extreme example), going to narcotics anonymous meetings, getting regular tests at regular intervals from now and leading up untill your courtdate to prove that you have been off drugs and gotten sober. finding a job (if your not already working) inbetween now and your court date would also be beneficial. just things like that to show that your a productive member of society is what the judge wants to see.

lol man, a good lawyer will tell you to do all of the above.... and gather references. you want to front up to court on the day with as much positive evidence as you can. the more you do to prove that you've turned over a new leaf and made ammends for your wrong doings, the more lenient the judge is going to be on you.

Getting a job/school wouldn't hurt + it helps if you have kids/a family...I wouldnt do rehab if you have to pay for it because u could be saving up for a lawyer but NA is free too and it helps show your trying to cure your "addiction".

I agree 100% with everything you said.

OP, also get a full time job and go to school if possible.

It is unlikely even a good lawyer could win your case - When you sell to a CI it is well documented and very difficult to fight the charges.  All a lawyer can do is argue for a better deal.

NA meetings are free and being able to tell the judge that you regularly attend will help.

If you can't find a lawyer that will accept a payment plan, go with a public defender.
