If you want large quantities(vermiculite too) for really cheap (I use both vermiculite and perlite for making potting soil too) find a landscape supply company.Not a gardening store,but a place that sells to landscapers.I got a HUGE bag of each (6 cu ft.) for about 30$ total.
You may have to pretend to have a landscaping biz- some places don't like to deal with individuals...

i have no problems to find perlite or vermiculit. this is a tip for those who cannot find perlite.
