Some bad news for the laziest and potentially worst first grow ever. More evidence of green contams in all 3 bags. Not gonna bother to take a pic at this point, but I will if it gets worse.

What are my chances at this point? Could my mycelium kick it's green ass?

Naw, toss em and start over.      I guesss anythings possible...but if all 3 contamd best bet is to start over.

What are you planning on doing exactly.....

Ps, opening a contaminated sub in your grow area will contaminate your grow area. Dont open those inside. You might be ale to do something with it outside but not in

I just plan on not tossing them unless I'm 100% sure there's contams.

What is your analysis of my recent pics?

Contam, anything cept white is usually bad. Toss them and start over. Im surprised more people havent said anything.  If u live in a decent temp area, bury them outside

Btw, this is why people told you that earths tongue is crap. You had pre sterilized bags, they shouldnt have contamed if u were sterile with ur needle. Next time go with a sponsor from this site.

I think I'll hold on to them for a couple more days to see if things get worse. If they do I'll just bury them in the back yard. Temps in the northeast are low 50s-60s, so that might dash my hopes of these guys growing anything :frown:

idk.. That might be some VERM reflection. I just cant see it clear myself, I dont see green at all.  I would just take them away from your clean area, but dont open them to bury them. just set them somewhere else like the garage.. That is why I dont like those madbags. I always feel like something going wrong cause i cant see clearly.
I prefer just grain bag..

IamYou said:
optimal temp is 86F per P. Staments

That's outdated and incorrect information. We now know that optimal temp is 70-75.

For example, according to RR:
Quote:
At 86F, growth is already slowed to a crawl, and molds are being stimulated.

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/12541940#12541940
Also from RR:
Quote:
By the way, Stamets never said to use 86F as an ambient air temp for colonizing P cubensis.

75F is probably about perfect for fruiting, but don't sweat it.

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/10793395#10793395
And one last one from RR:
Quote:
My experience has been the lower temps give meatier fruits and better potency.  Shoot for normal room temp fruiting, because that's just about ideal.

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/10479204#10479204

I think that perhaps there is a little bit of confusion here. When you quote "At 86F, growth is already slowed to a crawl, and molds are being stimulated" - that probably refers to the outside temperature, not temperature within the jars.

For mycelium growth of cubensis, the ideal temperature for optimal growth is 86. Please see image below.

http://www.lycaeum.org/mv/TMC/tmc_cubensis_temperature.gif

When you think about the native environments of cubensis (tropics and sub-tropics) this makes a lot of sense! Although of course you want to reduce the outside temp to lower than 86, as heat is generated within the jars. But not much, only a few degrees.

So 78f(26c)-82f(28c) would be perfect as an outside temp.

First off, who the fuck are you? check your own .gif link and you'll see your chart that you're looking at is from the 1950's.... I'll take my room temp anyday... clearly you have never grown anything...

As far as OP goes, there is absolutely NO reason you can't keep your bags to watch. Just dont open them! I keep contamed bags around for shits and giggles to watch all the time. I do all my g2g transfers in open air with oust, and the last time i did 4 g2g transfers (qt jar to 4lb wbs bag) 2 of my 4 tranfers contamed due to not using oust (i was out but oh well )

Anyway, long story short, 1 of the bags had the myc recover from a real bad black mold problem, and 100% colonize the wbs. My point is, if you have bags or jars that start to contam, there is no reason you need to toss out right away unless you are pressed for resources and need your jar/bag for another project. Let the myc try to fight and see what happens.

In the meantime, start over and try again

Thanks for the info, slapphappy. I had already decided to hold onto them until they got much worse, but you made me feel better about that decision.

It's not like they smell either. They still have the same slight mushroomy smell that they had for a couple of weeks now. Maybe it's a bit stronger now, but nothing bad smelling.

There was a very visible green spot here a day or two ago. You can still see it, but the mycelium seems to be outgrowing it.

some visible green here that hasn't gotten any bigger or smaller

well i decided to prematurely birth them because the contams were spreading more

i made a sgfc from a plastic cat food container and im using wet paper towels as a perlite substitute. to make matters worse the sgfc is way too small and the "cakes" (if you can call them that) barely fit. theres so little room that theyre actually touching. i think im gonna just bury the most contammed one.

im seeing some mushrooms start to sprout out, but i unfortunately crushed the biggest one when putting it into the cramped sgfc

i would post pics but its too embarrassing at this point

Dude u are going to ruin the rest of your grows in that house by letting that mold spread out like that, bury both of them, accept your losses and restart...
