Now at last it's getting colder up here..


...found these possible subaeruginosa lookalikes today...it's only tentative so far, but there does appear to be some bluing...taking a print now

Very nice photos, specimens, and IDs.

I've eaten other species of Volvariella, but not that one. They're definitely edible - just be certain of your ID by taking a spore print. The other Volvariella species are pretty good edibles.

toxicman- yeh im certain its a Volv. sp - its got pinkybrown sporeprint and volva but no ring... viscid cap too

Volvariella speciosa are endemic in my garden.
They taste really bad. :crazy: This must be the worst mushroom I've ever eaten.

they look like most of the subaeruginosa we pick. We find the mushrooms can look slightly different from patch to patch depending on conditions.

Although the ascending gills tend toward Subaeruginosa, Im inclined firstly to view Guzman delineation of Eucalypta as sound in Australia, and that the general sporeprint colour and cap texture warrant an id.
Can you send out a gill fragment and spore print?
So many subs around Melbourne as usual...
And one or two Eucalypta cultured from the SNowy Mountain region too...

Volvar. species are a deliciousy in South-East Asia, often in Tom Yum and related soups - they are best eaten very young in primordia otherwise they taste poor.
Yields are bad off most substrates, and the cultures go down hill rapidly with known commercially available straw mushrooms.

some kind of Hypholoma (maybe incertum?) i think... purply brown sporeprint. thought it looked kinda similar to a cubensis except it doesnt have a ring and was growing on buried wood.

Looks like one to me - they come in such varied forms that its hard to tell - spores sound right to me though. Ive got Hypholoma Capnoides here in culture which is an edible variety.

Lepiotas are nice to eat. I coat them in flour, eggs and breadcrumps then shallow fry like a schnitzel, they taste great,

my mistake - i remember reading that some varieties were poisonous. Near where i live there is a park full of pine trees - and the russulas are everywhere.
