first ollie?
    #15328072 -

I'm sure some of you are skaters to some degree.  When/how did you learn to ollie?

I'm a bit old to be picking up a skateboard but I just started trying to learn after not touching one in about 20 years (and never having been good as a kid).

Its like riding a bike man, I go on year hiatuses and still have no problem getting on the board and slamming a bs flip tailslide cross some quarterpipe. I cant even remember my first ollie, I remember kick flipping my first set of stairs, in like middle school, it was glorious, its like having sex for the first time you have to tell everyone.

Took me like 3 month to learn how to Ollie. After that everything is cake if you put your mind to it.

its dedication.  countless hours of driveway time.  hold onto the back of a chair or something to keep balance at first.  but the best tip of all is; you have to figure out what foot placement works best for you.

I've been skating since 2nd grade to this day. There comes a point where you won't even think about doing it.

It comes naturally to me now.

Start practicing ollies in a stationary position. For instance, you can place your wheels in a crack on the sidewalk so you don't move while trying to ollie, or you can learn on some carpet or on some grass. Once you kind of get the timing of the pop and sliding your front foot forward try it with a little tiny bit of momentum.

Keep trying most importantly. I miss skateboarding, some of the funnest times of my life were had skating spots with my buds back in high school. Snowboarding is just so much less painful and more fun

Not hard at all you place your backfoot on the tail your front foot on the middle with your heel hanging off pop the back up and slide your front foot forward.

yeah man thats when the fun begins, the less you think and the more you flow the more beautiful it becomes. I could ride transitions all day, never push, and never stop. pop flick land!

you could also take a n old skateboard, and put some wood pieces where the trucks are, and use that on carpet, just to help you get the foot motions. I think most importantly then learning how to ollie is just learning how to balance, how to bump up curbs and go fast, and move, find a looseness in your trucks that is comfortable, after you figure all this out ollies will be much less complicated.

I've always preferred street skating. The stairs, hubbas and handrails are just simply devine.

Minus the "rack your nuts" phase.

It took me a while to learn how to ollie. But after a week or two of getting seriously into skating i could pull off ollies and kickflips

Ollies are one of the best thing that has happened to me.  keep practicing man!  After you can do a smooth ollie while skating in one motion street/park or whatever, it is zen.  I haven't skated on a regular basis in a few years and I miss it more than anything.  The bad part is, after years of skating my knees and ankles are fucked (thus the lapse in consistent skating).

You can ollie on a snowboard too.  It is awkward at first, but once you get it down, it is similar to skating.  I learned to skate before snowboard, so skating has always been easier (at least the tricks anyway).  I used to do a 360 on a skateboard and I couldn't do it on a snowboard.

Have fun man!

I always always wanted to be good at skateboarding. It looks like so much fun, but I am just way to big to do it well. When I fall, I fall hard.

I'm not fat or anything, just, idk. I feel like the board is so small compared to my body size, and I always ate shit so I just gave it up:lol:

It took me forever just to be able to ollie.

On the football field though I was a god though.

I know exactly how you feel. I'm a tall guy, which concludes big feet. Try to buy skateboards with the size 8.25 or higher.

Tight clothes also minimize the effect of feeling uncomfortable with skating.
