Occupy Wall Street gaining POSITIVE mainstream media coverage * 1
    #15232808 -

Wow, what can I say.
This is the first time I've ever seen OWS discussed in such an indepth, nonbiased and heated conversation, if you'd call it that.
I'm so proud they've gained recognition.

I'm curious as to your opinions on the OWS movement?

No worries at all my friend, though I would love some links about what you're speaking about.
edit:
That makes me sound really lazy, I'm just really busy at the moment and don't have much time to do my own digging.
If you have any links hand about Dylan please post the link(s) here.

He didn't really have an argument, it was just a unsubstantiated rant. Could someone explain to me what he means by all of the money being extracted by banks and other entities?

Mainstream has been covering this positively from the start.  Its really only fox news and other conservatives that have been bashing it for the most part.

it's like the largest gathering of misguided notions with no real direction ever.

I've checked out both Dallas and Austin, I found this sign in dallas:
you guys wanna post up in your own internment camp? knock yourselves out.

Austin was even more of a joke, no straight answer or direct reason from anyone I asked about being there. I mostly got "I'm here to stand up for my natural human rights" but no one could go any further really on how that applied in this case. There was also lots and lots of people blaming bankers, ceo's, and other private entities for the nations problems but only one person I talked to knew what the future commiddities modernization act was.

sorry dude I don't watch fox or any cable news. But I do think it's a good rule of thumb to understand what you're talking about completely before you decide to "occupy" someones property in protest. I support the general idea of this protest, but I don't think it's any sort of revolution, I don't think it's organized by any measure, I think it's being handled the wrong way and in the end will be more of a joke than any seriousness it ever had.

dunno, you have to use as much people as you can when you do events like these. it's how you get political power. There has been discussions about lottery democracy in the Occupy Montreal movement. it has given me faith that this movement is actually genuine protests.

The tea party started as a pretty cool place with conspiracy theorist and ron paulites, then it turned into a more radical counterpart of the republican party.

The rest of the world may accept US occupy protest but don't think it's the other way around. Madrid, if i'm not mistaken, has been at it for a while and held the 15th as a day of solidarity for the Occupy movement that has spread from there. Another large Occupation protest is goin on in Italy too, but really the italians would have riots over shitty weather.

My main beef is why is this on wall street and not a federal lawn? Sure let 'em know they fucked up, but fix the problem yourself, otherwise you're standing outside of a bank crying over spilt milk.

What do you mean fix the problem yourself, they have no power to do that . Everyone knows how to fix the banking problem and it's about making the rich people pay for the crisis. Not the corner store owning petit bourgeois, cracking down on the banking institutions and the 1%. Instituting reforms that makes them unable to make as much money will stabilize the system.

In the long term, people have to stop their bitching, and think about instituting planned economies in the next 200 years, because those economies pay off in the long term. Because environmental disaster are coming. and because degrowth might be needed sooner than we expect. People need to break their ideological narrowness to institute a positive new world order with humanity working in synesthesia with nature. No more big operations of extractions or reparations of the earth. more like progressive and slow extraction of ressources at the same rate that it is created.

If you want to know whats going on, study the history of the federal reserve, rothschild dynasty, International banking cartels, derivatives, and fractional reserve banking.

instead of waltzing around wondering whats up.

pick up some reading material instead of a pipe.

... and find a job.  Amazing that all these lazy bums have so much time to sit around a protest about not being rich, but when it comes to actually working, they would rather sit around and blame somebody else for their woes.  I don't like the magnitude of the gap between the rich and the poor, but the fault lies almost entirely with the poor.  And yes, I'm in the 99%, and I have nobody to blame, but myself.

Thats idiotic.

sure people have to work, but slaves need to work too if they want to live.

the main issue here is pretty much economic slavery.

I mean protest the laws that allow such things to happen. There's too much muckery between who's writing laws and who stands to profit from them. You can't fault humans for taking advantage of a faulty system, its what we do best. You've got to fix the system so it can't be taken advantage of again. Yes we got scammed, yes it was legal. Take a deeper look at the actual laws that were passed and by whom and blame the voters that put them in office. Round them up and steal all their money to make everyones life easier, right? neah it doesn't make much sense. I would like to see the statistics on how many people make up this 1% and how many became a part of the 1% from corporate bail out money. I doubt anyone on that list got there in the last 15 years.

Why are you surprised Dylan Ratigan would "cover" the protests in a positive light? He's one of the advisors of OWS.

Any bit of media coverage directed towards OWS movement has been extremely biased, singling out the less educated of the protesters claiming the whole movement is based of a few jackass' of television.
There has been literally 'good' coverage of OWS.

can't stand people like that. i want to create my own country without people like that living next to me. I'm fucking sick of anyone talking about laziness and poverty. make me puke. and i don't mean that in an offensive way toward you. i mean that i am physically allergic to people whose values are not close enough to me that it prevents those types of thought. i think you would probably have the same reaction with bums or hippies. Shouldn't we live in different countries? shouldn't we split our nations for the people of the left and the right?

This is exactly what people are trying to do, you must try to influence those events when they happen, it's the only way. People with like minded ideas group together, and a debate can thus happen. Those kind of events is the type of shit i've dreamed for a long time. it may never happen twice in a lifetime.

:ifyoucanawe: okay, Herman.  I'm sure the 25 million unemployed and millions and millions more underemployed people are in their situation due to laziness.

The fault lies with the poor?  Seriously?  SERIOUSLY?!?  Do you also blame rape victims from dressing slurry?  Do you blame being gay on upbringing?  Do you blame minorities for being victims of hate crimes?  Get fucking real.

So you hand picked a few signs out of hundreds, maybe thousands and want to paint with a broad brush an entire movement?

This is the same thing lazy opponents of the Tea Party movement were doing.

Spare us.
