Our civilization is cancer.
    #15215206 -

People like to throw around words like "advance" and "progress" but what do they really mean?  It's as if they haven't thought it through but are following by blind faith.

What these terms really mean is simple.  To put it bluntly, our civilization (that which has replaced all other forms of human existence on this planet almost fully now) is cancer.  The simplest definition of cancer is uniformity at the cost of diversity.  So when fastfood chains force locally owned restaurants in your town out of business, that is an example of the effects of cancer.  As a civilization, we exist by almost entirely cancerous means.  We have no respect for the life of this planet and almost the only lifeforms we can even tolerate is that which we can manipulate and ultimately keep under us.  Why?  Because we believe the humans are by far the most important thing on Earth, and that Earth belongs to us, not vice-versa.  We propagate human beings and our favorite slave species and kill or starve everything else.  That's what agriculture is, is it not?  We wipe out everything in an area that  would follow the laws of natural selection/competition and have it so only corn grows there, or only cows live there.

This month, the human population on Earth is expected to reach 7,000,000,000.  We are an astronomical disease to the Earth at this point.  Unfortunately, most of us have become very weak and pathetic over the course of our endless progress.  We try to isolate ourselves from the world and each other.  We fear and try to exterminate any living thing that comes into our homes.  We are addicted to the TV drug and have no idea how to live as we evolved to.  We have also made the biosphere of the Earth itself rather weak through our cancerous infection.  Tens of thousands of species have already gone extinct.

So, what is it all for?  So we can grow and grow at the price of everything else and keep growing and spread our cancer throughout the universe?  Or is it so we can keep making more and more advanced technology that we in no we need so that someday all technology can be united and we, if we are still human at that point, can say, “It was us that brought about God's existence, it was us for which all of this existed and now we have proved it because what we have created now controls everything.”

I don't know why I wrote this but I just can't take it anymore.  I can't take the people that don't realize what we are doing.  They actually fucking believe things are going to get better!  Fuck every last one of you that believes that that hasn't realized and broke from the central tenets of our civilization.  Your endless progress is a total sham and soon everyone will have cancer because of our egregious ignorance.

Don't like how we do things? Maybe you should stop participating in it (and therefore perpetuating it). Stop being a consumer and go live in Africa.

So wait are we a "cancer" onto ourselves or the earth?  Or both?

I spend as little as I can in most situations.  And you don't have to go live in Africa to stop being a consumer, that's a very ignorant notion.

False. Our civilization is not cancer because cancer is immortal and our civilization is not. You lose. Game over.

I really want to know so enlighten me: why do several of you feel this repugnant need to defend our civilization, even if you sound silly doing so with a weak retort?

You spend as little as you can?

What do you mean? Do you have a job? Do you consume products, like food?

is it all about you and your living conditions?  is that what matters?

you can't tell me most of our technology was necessary before it was created, but once it was we latched onto it and many of us cannot survive without things like cars and grocery stores now.

No.

All species produce the maximum number of offspring until they are limited by resources. ALL OF THEM. This is called 'nature'.

Nobody has defended civilization yet.  Your op doesn't really make a lot of sense.  You act as though youre independent of civilization.  Just more of the trendy liberal notion of "humans ruining the earth maaan".

So we (humanity) are a cancer to each other, other animals and the earth as a whole?  Or something along those lines?  So in your opinion every human should be exterminated or something in order to cure the Earth of it's "astronomical disease?"

You say humans believe theyre more important than other organisms.  Let me ask you this, what makes us not?  Your viewpoint is that we are obviously less important, why is that?

OP.  Right the F#ck on!  I will jump in your bandwagon.  I don't have anything to defense this "civilization" for.  Why do you think you see it that way?  Do you think you are jaded, or bitter?  I feel exactly as you do, and sometimes I wonder if I just focus on all the negative aspects?

what else can you be?

youve put down 'progres' but it seems like youre only thinking about the buzz word used by politicians in the scheme of advancing and progressing THEIR ideologies.

why dont you talk about what real progress could be?

unless you think progress is absolutely wrong in all forms

in that case you lose weight in your argument, youre just being completely hopeless and perpetuating useless beliefs
