Top Chef Season 9 Contestants Revealed

I'm always reluctant when they bring a bunch of people I've never heard of on the show.  But I guess that's the whole appeal to it because it's alot of up and coming talents really fighting for a better life.


So you get to see alot more risk taking with the food they make, alot more innovation for the better or worse.


It's not like the most recent Top Chef masters where multiple contestants would make the same exact thing on different challenges.  It was super boring and just shows how safe alot of successfull chefs are because their food caters to mainstream.




But the contestant list from this year really touched home.  There's a chef contestant on there from a restaurant I frequent ALOT in LA.  I never considered the restaurant to be any big name, it's not well known at all, it has no michelin stars and it's not all that busy of a place.

But I always found their food to be really well done.


Anyways, the chef from my local favorite restaurant is Laurent Quenioux from a place called Vertical Wine and Bistro in Pasadena, CA.


It was really surprising to see him amongst the chosen.  Anyways it looks like an interesting selection of chefs, as they also have the Chef de Cuisine at MOTO,  along with the executive chef of Aria.  It's also cool to see a chef from NYC's Fatty Crab.  Along with a chef from Michelle Bernstein's restaurant.

Should make for a pretty interesting season.  It's also cool they brought in some Koreans, as that seems to be a growing influence of cuisine in this country.

I went to school with Richie Farina of Moto. We graduated the same year out of JWU Providence.

I did see him on the show that Moto did for Green Network two years ago. Not a big fan of Moto, too wildly experimental for experimental sake, no finesse imo. But hopefully he doesn't make a fool of himself. Im not gay or anything, but the dude is very photogenic, I could see him getting a spot based on that alone.

Heh, that's pretty cool.



I know MOTO is kind of a joke in how they do things like that.  But I gotta admit, watching how they run their kitchen and what not, it looks like it'd be such a fun place to work.



And I do appreciate how far "out there" they go sometimes.  It may not be refined and be super gimmicky.  But I'll admit it's fun to watch.

She's one of the chosen contestants.


And the fact she's an executive chef at a highly rated restaurant in Chicago ups her hotness factor 10 fold.

(sigh) really? small portions? can we please let our shitty Cheesecake Factory food standards go? it's obviously a very nice restaurant that probably does tasting menus and charges accordingly for it. And for an entree that's actually pretty generous, and looks well done. And what the hell does portion size have to do with someones cooking skill or the quality of the food? oh wait, this is America, I forgot...
