Does heavy introspection lead to...
    #15120241 -

...an increased tendency to be all

I see a lot of people around me who have these roles they've developed for their characters to play and they will do anything it seems, no matter how absurd to continue living the "dream". (pun intended)

I had a day on Monday that was in most respects...awful.  One of those days where everything goes wrong and you can't wait for it to be over.

What was interesting IMO was that in the past I would have viewed the situation as a mountain to climb, a challenge to be over come.  Lies told to make the unpalatable a little easier to swallow.

In this case however, I was amazed at how quickly I was completely overcome by the absurdity of the situation...even getting to where I could no longer make related decisions.

It was the part of the movie where the guy just gets up and walks out of the board meeting mid-presentation never to return.

Weird man.

I think it leads to nowhere. I've spent years doing it, unemployed. But I figured out every time I put my mind on pause without effort, life turns into something awesome, and I turn into something incredibly simple.

Striving is stupid greedy bullshit, including striving to 'know'. Thank society.

Not striving is stupid greedy bullshit, including not striving to 'know'.

See what I did there?

Seriously, it seems as though I am completely losing my ability to do things I don't want to do.  because I can't come up with a compelling reason to do so.

This is direct opposition to most people's ideas of what it means to be a good human.  Suffer through it, man up, knuckle down, etc.

Just read the words of those catch phrases!  Everything I want nothing to do with.  That shit's hilarious, I just noticed that.

Just do your best.  I walked out and started living another dream just a tad more to my liking.

Culture is absurd but very few can handle grokking it because it requires some kind of action. And that action will separate you from the security of the tribe.  It's a kind of freedom that only a Warrior (read Castaneda) can endure for long.

I walked out of my own board meeting at one point without knowing if I would ever come back or not. A few times I've felt compelled to go back just because I felt better equipped to deal with the environment. But every time I start getting back into the swing of it, it turns out I was just lying to myself about what was causing the problem in the first place

I was on track to go to an ivy league school. Then i started questioning all of the shields society handed me and i got really depressed and said fuck it. That's when the drug use kicked in.

You kinda have to to some extent... to fully make your way out you need a decent amount of money. I want to do all the things you said to try and buy out but I don't have that kind of motivation in any way and I don't know if I ever will. Back to churning out unimaginative overcooked dishes and working splits I go.

Maybe free in some ways. Assuming you can manage that.

Free in the way that really counts IMO
Feeling trapped or feeling free are both just feelings turned into thoughts.
Stop them both and what will you see?

This is what I am talking about.  Remove the fact that your Dad's loaded away from the equation and most people could give you a laundry list of reasons why this is a bad move.  I agree that having a solid career and things would generally make life easier for you, but I can't be sure that it would make it better for you.

It's funny, you remind me of a guy I went to school with.  I'm smart, but never really found school interesting (except literature) but this guy applied himself, took the AP classes etc.  I was skipping and getting wasted.  Sue me.

Anyway, he went off to UVA which isn't Yale but it's pretty nice...and then a year later I ran into him sitting on a curb smoking a cigarette.  He apparently got a few semesters in and for whatever reason dropped out and got a job delivering pizza.  Said he'd never been happier.

On the other hand several other high achievers I knew in HS have gone on to be making mid 6 figures right now with a wife and kids and the whole shebang.  I used to beat myself up bad when I'd hear about their "success".

I wasted a lot of time thinking that was "me".  Well, wasted is the wrong word...you can only do what you can do...you know?  And let's be honest, if you haven't pulled it together by 30 it's probably not going to happen.

I suppose the trick is to figure out what level of prostitution you're willing to accept and then to figure out the best way to monetize your cock sucking abilities.

There's a direct relationship of monetary opportunities to whoring tolerance it seems...unless you do your own thing.

I can agree with that.  Fighting your true nature is definitely an uphill climb on roller skates.

But coming to terms with it is difficult and perhaps even life shattering.

For example- Imagine your whole life you had thought yourself intelligent and that maybe you would become a lawyer or a scientist or whatever...but later you discovered you only had the drive to eek out enough money to survive.

That's a lot of dissonance for your brain to swallow...and it's not going to be pretty IMO.

My experience with my "underachiever" acquaintances are that when young they deny it...and when older they are bitter about it.

Regardless of situation, I don't find living the life you want to lead as underachievement.   In fact it may be the only achievement life truly offers us.
