Puffball ID request - good edible?
    #15026973 -

Found these yesterday nearby some pine trees.  Hopefully picture speaks for itself, but I can get any more information if needed.  In southeastern US.  Any identification help is appreciated.

I put them in the refrigerator, but the flesh now seems wet and spongier than it should.  I hope they are still good.  If these are good edibles, anyone have any advice on the best way to prepare them?  Thanks!

They are Calvatia.  They are edible when the flesh is white, but it looks like it is starting to turn olive in your specimens which means the spores are starting to mature.

And I found some more already! They seem to be everywhere I look this year, I don't know if its a good year for them or I've just never noticed.

I sliced them up, coated them in egg, flour, Parmesan, oregano, garlic powder, and some other stuff, and pan fried them in butter and oil.  It was almost like fried cheese!  Good stuff.
