hmm, perhaps you misunderstood me.  Violence doesn't disturb me, but I think if we can keep players healthy longer it's good for everyone.  It fucking sucks when an important star player on your team ends his season (or career) because someone inflicted an unnecessarily violent tackle; intentional and clearly avoidable tactics like hitting another player in the head/neck with the helmet is unnecessary, displays poor sportsmanship, and (perhaps most importantly) is detrimental to the bottom line.  It is in no ones best interest to lose important (and profitable) star players.  Moving the goal line may prove futile in protecting kick returners, but it's not nearly as detrimental to the game as losing good players.

So take whatever reason you will.  Is is immoral to allow these players to inflict serious injuries on each other for our entertainment?  Maybe, but I don't know or care.  I only touched on that for context.

Is it detrimental to the teams, players, owners, fans, and the sport to lose extremely talented athletes to unnecessary shows of violence?  I think it may be.

I have seen hundreds of amazing football games where nobody is seriously injured, and they are no less exciting than the ones where a player is carted off the field.

The more I think about this new review-every-score idea the less I like it.  Here's why:

It is now possible in a situation that is very close and the ref is unsure that the ref will signal a touchdown against his instincts because he figures they'll get an opportunity to review it anyway.  However if the cameras fail to pick up conclusive evidence that it was not a touchdown, the ruling on the field will stand as called.  This could lead to more touchdowns being called that are in fact not touchdowns. 

Secondly, what makes a play that results in the refs calling a touchdown and being wrong more important than the refs saying a guy was down at the half-yard-line and being wrong because the guy actually scored.  The first case is reviewed automatically but the second case requires a challenge.  This seems inconsistent.

its gonna be lame when there are 3 up-the-gut goalline plays and they have to review them for 2 minutes each time. there is something called momentum in a game and it needs to not be fucked with, otherwise shit gets boring.

whoever said it earlier was dead on: this game has given way too much power to the refs and the replay. I totally understand and support how baseball leaves it to chance of human error. some things are better off that way.

Anyone else feel that they could be an NFL kick returner with the new rules? They took away one of the best plays in football and hurt my team(da bears!).

You know it might be worth mentioning that when they moved the kick from the 35 back to the 30 it was part of a larger strategy designed to shorten the length of the games.  So that the games would be over in three hours.  As well as moving the kickoffs back, they took away instant replay, reduced the play clock from :45 to :40 and probably a couple other things I can't remember.

Now, we have more replay and shorter kickoffs.
