New NFL rules
    #14923336 -

i want to know what people here think of the new rules in the NFL, particularly the 35 yard line kickoff rule, and the replay booth verification of all scores.

good/bad for the league?

we'll see what happens with the kickoff rule, but the verification thing is good. i dont like the feeling when something happens in a game that shouldn't have or should have.

against both

verifying shit takes too long against instant replay altogether under any circumstance

the kick off thing sucks i want to see more returns with even more brutal hits

fuck any new rule that protects the players

the more violent football is the more entertaining it is

Since Goodell is so determined to fix shit that ain't broke, I'm not going to complain too much about these changes.  They're not that bad really.  The new kickoff rule is going to put a lot more pressure on offenses because they will be a lot deeper.  Last year 18 percent of kicks resulted in touchbacks and this year that number will be up around 35 percent as a result.  So the team that receives a kick will really want to get out of the shadow of their own endzone or else the other team is going to get really good field position.  So this rule favors the defense.  This will benefit teams who score.  Momentum can get out of hand fast.

At first I was really nervous about the new replay rule but after watching a lot of preseason games this past week, I don't see it having much of an impact.  There was not much of a slowdown, except in the Patriots game, but once the guys in the booth get used to their new responsibilities I think it'll be fine.

That's just a long way of saying I don't care.  I'm just glad they didn't add two games to the schedule like they wanted.  And while I am talking about CBA crap, I'll add that I dislike the decision to do away with two-a-day practices and like the new rookie pay cap.

I am against the kick-off rule entirely.

The scoring replay, I have neutral feelings.  I am not sure if there is one, but a time limit should be set.  Like a minute at most.  1 minute is a long time to review.

I really have a strong feeling that these changes are aimed to promote more ad/commercial time, instead of improving the game. $$$$$$$$$$  Not so much the kick-off rule, but the replay rule has got to be.

Scoring review seems awesome, but I am going to hate it when it calls backs an awesome play from my team.

I like the booth verification, but that's about it. They are pussyifying the game and Roger Goodell is the biggest piece of shit. His ass has got to go.

I think teams are going to learn to exploit the new kickoff rule. 5 yards less to run means good kickers will be able to put the ball in the air longer and pin teams within the 10. I dont think it will protect players the way they had hoped. Anyone catching a ball within the 10 is going to risk their ass to get it to at least the 20.

By their logic, if they were really looking to stop kickoff injuries just remove kickoffs altogether.

yea, no shit.  I am sick and tired of this pussifying of the game.

Let there be blood, broken bones.  Fight tooth and nail!  It's what we as spectators are craving.

If sports can have two men beat the shit out of each other in a ring, why can't we have near decapitations in football?

I want brutality damnit!

I don't think football is really about players getting injured.  It's about strategy and athleticism.  This isn't ancient Rome and these aren't Gladiators, and we aren't watching Medieval jousting matches hoping for a lance through the eye socket.  I don't care how much these players get paid, we shouldn't expect them to risk their lives to Alzheimer's and other crippling ailments for our blood-thirsty pleasure.  It's an ancient human lust to see athletes risk life and limb for our enjoyment, but I think it's something we can move beyond.

Enjoy the game for the game, not for seeing athletes get injured or worse.

You're a bit inconsistent there.  You say football isn't comparable to the gladiators of Rome and then at the end you say we can move beyond such bloodlust.  So which is it?  Have we moved beyond or do we still need to?

The end I admit is incredibly idealistic.  The day people don't hope for a career ending injury is the day we stop going to war; both are deeply ingrained in our culture for better or worse.

My point is that football is not about players getting injured.

At this point I'd prefer Baseball over Football atleast baseball is a game where the players effect the outcome of the game, not refs. They might as well be playing instead of the players. I mean come on I was watching the Cowboys Chargers game last night and the guys helmet came off he scored a touchdown but the ball was dead as soon as his helmet came off, thats bullshit all of these rules are taking what used to be exciting about football out of the game. There is no need to review every touchdown even if it was clearly a touchdown. They say it's to have coaches keep thier challenge flags when the flags were mostly used on plays that could quite possibly change the outcome of the game, mostly touchdowns. You can see why everyone calls American football a pussy sport cause thats what it is turning into.

Stop watching football if injuries disturb you.  Watch a non-contact game if you don't like a physical sport.  Golf, tennis, swimming etc.

Please do..

The game was so much more brutal than it is today.  Do you think people were complaining of this BS back when the greatest defenses in the sport were playing?

NO

Give me a fucking break..
