My NFL Week 1 Picks
#6030681 - 09/05/06 09:15 AM (17 years, 4 months ago) |
|
|
Just finished filling out my picks for the Illegal Football Pool at work. Its simple, a straight pick-'em, with the tie-breaker being the combined score of the monday night game. 5 bucks to get in, usually 20-25 people play, so if you win once a season you come out even, or a little ahead. Last year, a 17 year old GIRL won twice. Her grand strategy? She picked the team with the better looking quarterback. I spent hours watching NFL live and didnt win once. I got second twice. (No Prize, Fuckers)
Anyway...My picks. Winners are in bold, obviously.
Miami @ Pittsburgh - Miami will pull this out. No Big Ben, and Duante will want to come out hot. Time for Ronnie Brown to show what he can do.
Baltimore @ Tampa Bay - Steve Mcnair, baby...
Denver @ St. Louis - I really hate the Broncos, but they seem to get it done every year. I dont see St. Louis doing much at all this year.
Buffalo @ New England - Tom Brady/Bellicheck @ home? 'nuff said.
Philly @ Houston - Look for Donovan to have a big game to show he doesnt need TO. Does anyone know who's rushing the ball for the Texans?
New Orleans @ Cleveland - I think Drew Brees will look much better behind the line than Aaron Brooks; if he can see over it, that is. This one is a close one. I can see Thievland pulling it off, if I didnt think Charlie Frye really really sucked.
Seattle @ Detroit - C'mon...Really. Detroit will be better this year, but they arent beating Seattle in week one, dome or no dome.
Jets vs. Tennesee - This one is a push. Both these teams suck. I give it to the Titans since their at home.
Cincinnati at KC - KC is a tough place to play, but the Bengals are that much better.
Chicago @ Green Bay - I have alot of money riding on this one with the packers freaks at work. Hopefully I can fleece them this year...
Dallas @ Jacksonville - Byron Leftwich will make a good step up this year. The Jags will suprise some people.
SF @ Arizona - Arizona is another team on the rise. That receiving core is scary, and if Warner and Edge can stay healthy, they should content for a playoff spot. (!)
Indy @ Giants - After all the chokes and playoff disasters, Peyton Manning is still the best regular season QB I've ever seen. And Indy's defense will stifle the Giants. This one will be ugly.
Minnesota @ Washington - Just because I hate the Viqueens. I really really do.
San Diego @ Oakland - Oakland is so fucked. All those players suck, Randy Moss included. They have no QB to speak of, no rush to speak of, a senile owner, and terrible defense. I feel sorry for Art Shell, who's actually a decent coach. Phillip Rivers will do just enough, good first game for him.
So there you have it. The first few weeks of the season are always the hardest, because you dont have alot to work with. You really cant tell about teams until week 5 - 6. The bears were 1-3 last season after week 4, and look how they ended up...

I agree with every single pick except one - Bucs are gonna slam the Ravens.

wow i think we all kinda thought the steelers would lose. charlie batch played better than big ben does, and the steelers defense stepped it up big time.

If Big Ben was playing the score would have been even more lopsided...I'm thinking 34-10

Not necessarily.
A Steelers QB really just has to make a few key throws and hand the ball off, like what Batch did.
Probably would have been about the same.

Wrong
You will see more of a vertical passing game this year. Look at Bens stats....he had the best yards per completion percentage in the NFL last year....he throws one of the best deep balls in the NFL.
Look at the 3 playoff games that were won last year....they were all won on Bens arm.
Batch is a good veteran backup....had Ben played it the outcome would have been the same...but the score wouldn't have been close.
Everyone goes with what the media says and its pathetic....Ben does more then manage a game

No all the steelers need is few calls from the zebras, like they always been getting, didn't miami get robbed on one, typical
but anyways, you'll see the seahawks continue the dominance of last year,as far as I'm concerned no team has proven to hang with the Hawks,
Yeah I like the bucs over the ravens,
out all those picks what team are you most for sure on? because I almost won a 5 game parley at sports interact, putting down 60 would of netted me over 900 dollars, and barely lost one game out of the 5.

my landslide picks are:
the eagles over the texans the titans over the jets the chargers over the raiders the seahawks over the lions
maybe do a 4 team parley on those.

Why dont you cry about the pass interfence call that wasn't called when Cedric Wilson had his arms pulled down while going up for a pass....we get that and its ANOTHER touch down.
Fucking Seafag fans....I'll be suprised if they win 7 games this year.

and the reason Nick Saban was so tenative about throwing the flag on that play was that he knew...and even says himself...that had he thrown the flag...and the call was overturned the Steelers could have run a minute or two more off the clock and still ended up with the same result....
Had that been something that he actually wanted to call he would have ran out there and mad a big deal about it.
What it boils down to is Saban threw the flag to appease the fans....he didn't actually want to challange the play.
